I just took a trip down to Wayne National Forest to scout for a deer camp next year. I couldn't believe the amount of trash the locals would dump just to keep from paying the trash pick up bill. They literaly had trash (many bags) at every pulloff. I think they need to construct a local burning plant that is really cheap or free of charge so that pristeen lands like the Wayne can stay the way they are. I wish people would just take care of themselves but we all know that isn't going to happen.

The locals in SE Ohio live in another world. Right now on one spot at our farm by the road there is a couch and a baby seat that someone just threw out when they were driving by. We tell the Sheriff but they don't do nothing.

i belive our goverment should place dumpsters in these areas to prevent this.

That's a nice idea but it would just encourage more of the same. Last year the parking spot for one of my better grouse spots had a bunch of trash and glass broken right where I park to let the dogs out and you wouldn't beleive the stuff dumped out on the back roads around some of the private property I hunt. Just zero respect.

It's a shame that we have to put up with trash dumped along the roads ect. I think part of it has to do with higher fees and more restrictions in what the refuse haulers can and will take. But there is always the element that just don't care. We took the dog and kids over for a run along Atwood last weekend when it was so nice out, and I was really saddened by all the trash around the shoreline. Anything from shoes and hats to bait cups and soda cans. And we wonder why its so hard to get permission to hunt and fish on private ground.

Sounds like you are about to do the best you can do. It is apparent that the trashers or should we just call them "trash" weren't taught respect for the out of doors.:(

They need to get these troubled kids to work cleaning up the garbage along the roads....give em a couple garbage bags and send them on there way... it helps alot.

Ohio Bill,

That sounds like a great plan. Time outdoors learning responsibility for there actions at the same tie. You never know maybe a couple will find comfort there and want to know more about outdoor activities. Once they do that maybe the will "clean" (pun intended) their act!

I grew up living next to the Delaware Wildlife area outside of Waldo, and here are a few of the things I found dumped there:
a stolen Mustang, burned and still smoking
a horses head, wrapped in a blanket
5 dead greyhounds, all shot in the head
several dead sheep
dozens of christmas tree's
a stove
a tv
dozens of bags of trash and tires

I didn't find them, but two dead bodies.

it seems like people just dont respect what we have, most of the people responsible for this crap are against people like us, you want to see something nasty just look at all of the trash, that gets stuck above the dams on the ohio, why dont they have a way to gather it right there instead of opening the gates and sending it down river

I have recently observed what you are all talking about in my "suburban town" since the snow has melted and thought to myself : " This place is a wreck, I need to join a club to help clean this place up" In reality, I don't need to join any club to do that, I just need to go do it myself. I guess we can all help in our own little way.

I believe I will take a nice walk down certain roads with a garbage bag or two or three, etc. so that I can do my part to clean up. I know it won't solve the figgin' problem, but it will at least help a little.

Beentown,
I'm in town, a couple of blocks from the high school. I hated to move in town, but I couldn't pass up the deal I got on my house and as far as city's go, Mt.Gilead is a nice little town. I'm 5min from a Kroger and 5min from the woods!

Nice... I grew up between Fulton and Marengo on 61 by the Luthern Camp. I really like Morrow County. I live in Sunbury now.

People who litter should be caned. Too bad we don't still have the stocks. A day in the stocks in the center of town should make them think twice next time.

Our club, Lowellville Rod & Gun Club, is having a trash cleanup along Rt. 224 on April 10. We will feed the cleanup crew a breakfast and then head out to cleanup. Everyone is to wear hunter orange to show that we are hunters. You can read a little about it on our website at www.lowellville-rod-gun.com

Ha,the corn is just a few hundred yards off coal holler where you parked the truck, but we may be scouting a couple miles from there as the crow flies.

I remeber the corn being close to the road. Just new we wanted to try new areas. Just wasn't sure if you had seen it lately?! I hope the trash situation is better.
