View Full Version : Worst hunting related purchase
Got a gun that always jams, camo thats not really waterproof, a muzzleloader that rusts no matter how many times you dunk it in the drum of oil, a dog that just sleeps, or a hunt that didnt pan out? We've all made them so lets hear 'em................

I bought a pair of Rocky Bear claws in 97 before going to Colorado. Paid around $130.00 for em. The inner lining separated from the outter and makes a squeaking sound with every step. I use 'em to work on the truck, now. But they still squeak.

I bought a cheap climber once that was just a piece of junk.
One thing I've learned is you get what you pay for. Since I'm a really big cheap skate I usually research and shop around before I buy something. I rarely get stuck with something crappy.
I did buy a deer bleet call that was a major piece of junk too.

$8.00 for doe estrous urine in a bottle. Here's a tip, if it's on the shelf in September, it aint real! No matter what company bottled it. It's all fake. One of the biggest scams in deer hunting if you ask me.

I bought a Gamehide 4 in 1 parka and non insulated bib overalls. I bought them because they had a quiet waterproof outer fabric. Well the fabric what they call "Hush Hide" is great, but it is NOT Waterproof. I have since then treated it with Hunt Dri several times with mixed results. That my friends was an expensive lesson. If it doesnt say Gore tex, Im not gonna buy it. My next camo, Cabelas, or Browning.

I have bought a bunch of Cabela's brand stuff over the years but 3 things come to mind that I was very dissatisfied with that had the Cabela's brand on it.
One, was the broadheads I think they called the Laser Mag. The blades broke when you hit bone with them. That has never happened to me with Thunderheads.
Two, was a pair of those boots that are half rubber and half leather. The seam where the rubber and leather meet gave me one heck of a blister.
Three, was a a hooded jacket called a Dry- Plus pullover. The waterproof lining of the jacket was so noisy that you could not draw your bow without spooking the deer!
The good thing about Cabela's stuff is they have a good guarantee, and if you are not satisfied you can send it back.
Oh, one more thing. I bought a Loggy Bayou treestand one time that creaked like crazy. They did not weld the stand in all of the places it was supposed to be welded. I had to send it back twice before they fixed it, and even then, they could not figure it out. I had to tell them what they did wrong!
And another thing or things. I have had several Humminbird fish finders that have all been pure junk except one.
i would say it would have too be deer calls that said they would call em in .heck most of the scared them away.tried the can in southern ohio. bad idea them deer heard that thing and ran like they had been shot at

I bought a $200 browning ATG 3D parka that leaks and the pants aren't any better. Only bad thing i've ever had to say about browning.

I just thought of 2 more things. Both of these were hunts.
I went on a guided archery bear hunt in Ontario one time and the guide ran out of bait. I had to go to town and buy canned dog food to use as bait. And, of course it was at my own expense. I also never saw a bear the whole time I was there.
The other hunt was a guided archery elk hunt in Oregon. The first day we got there the guide did a good job and we covered probably 20 miles on foot which is normal for an elk hunt like that. The rest of the time we were there he wanted to spend most of our time just driving the trails in the truck and just looking.
This same guide was later convicted of shooting animals in a national park!
