Do you have a reloading press? I have loaded the .221FB for
my TC Contender. It has a 10" bbl. I really like the .221 it is
a neat little cartridge. We will have to check into what would
make a good bullet for fox and coyote at the .221 velocity. I
just looked through my loading books and none of them
show any loads for the .221 in a rifle. We will have to do
some research on this. I bet you will be getting 3000-3500
fps out of the rifle. They are making very light .22 cal.
bullets now that might be more fur friendly at very high
velocity. The guys on GGVG should be able to help you out
with fur friendly loads. If you want to give it a try let me
know.

I will list them in the order I think they may be the most
important. I may miss something but will try not to. You will
have to decide what you think is most needed.
1. Dial calipers. 6” to measure the length of the brass, and
your final loads. You will also use them to figure how far the
bullet is setting from the lands of the rifling.
2. Case length trimmer. I have a Forster. You can also get a
case neck turner attachment for the Forster. If you are as anal
as me you will probably want to do that in the future.
3. Priming tool. I think your press probably comes with one.
If it will hold 100 primers and works good that will probably
work OK. I use a Lee hand priming tool that I am happy
with.
4.Case prep tools. I like to deburr the flash holes. Then true
the primer pockets. For hunting rounds it may be more than
you think you need to do. I have always said I have never
seen a to accurate rifle. I do all I can to make it shoot as
small a group as possible. Even my deer hunting rifles.
Can we all say - (STEVE GOES WHOLE HOG IN
EVERYTHING HE DOES. ) That is why I am broke all the
time. :(
To get started you really need the press, powder measure,
dial calipers, brass, dies, bullets, primers, priming tool and
powder.
Every thing else you can get as you get more serious.

ps If anyone else wants to put their 2 cents in feel free. I am always ready to learn some more and spend more $$$$

Forgot the manual didn't I. That should have been at the top of my list. I would try to search all the differen't bullet manufacutrs out on the enternet. Decide what bullet you want to try and buy their manual. I have the newest Hornady and Nosler manuals, and some older Speer and Sierra. You need to get the most up to date manuals that are avaliable. The powder companys seem to be sold all the time and things change a little. Don't use load data that is from old hunting articles. Bad Idea!

My 2 favorite reloading manuals are Hornady & Hodgeson. I would get at least 2 manuals so you can compare back & forth.
Hope you get to enjoy reloading at least as much as I do. ;)

I just found this sight check out all the 221 loads. Every
reloader should book mark this sight. Now I’m off to find a
fur friendly bullet for you to use. I use a Sierra 50gr Blitz in my 10" contender on groundhogs. I never have had one exit. But I think a groundhog is a lot more solid than a fox or coyote.

You still need to get some manuals. When I first started reloading I would sit and read them all the time. There is a lot of intresting stuff in them.

thanks on the tip on that website buckrun. i got my reloader today, unfortunately i'm back to workin 6 days a week it seems,
the rifle came in also can't wait to load up a few and shoot it. i still am lookin for a time i can get away and drive up to learn some hands on info. the only dissapointing thing was i thought the shell holder came with the press but it didn't so i had to order a couple of them to fit my different calibers.

Razor I have been piling up some stuff for you. I found some .222 brass I had. I don’t know where it came from but I would bet it is only once fired. I will shoot you an email on the directions to my house. I have to try to figure out the distances form stop lights and such to turns.
