When the weather breaks I'll be happy to help you out in great detail. Unfortunatley I drove by the Chagrin tonight and even with the melt and rain there isn't even cracks in the ice. The ice just rose higher in the river of all things........ The way it's going even if we get enough of a melt to break it up it will take 2 weeks for the ice jams to clear and the water to get fishable. We "might" get to fish by March 1st if we're lucky. :(
As far as places to go for long term planning purposes. The main streams in Ohio working west to east are the Vermillion, Rocky, Chagrin, Grand rivers and Conneaut Creek. If your traveling a distance I'd focus on the 3 east side rivers. They are closer together and tend to clear from run off at varied rates so you'll have some options based on the water conditions. The Chagrin is a medium size river vary easily waded with lots of access. The Grand is MUCH larger and takes a long time to clear but is also wadable when the water levels are normal. Conneaut is in the NE corner and was the 1st stream to get the little manistees the state currently uses. It a smaller river with fairly easy wading and for the most part good access. There are posted stretches but not that bad. There are usually fish in the Rivers through May 1st but anything after the last week of april is running on borrowed time. Last year people found fish into June because of the cold wet weather but not something to count on.
If your looking for more info feel free!
all info from lance is good,if you want country solitude, keep to the east rivers and some of the tribs,a couple of tribs are small but a good run of fish make there way in the spring to spawn, one stream will clear up after rains in the third day but will be fishable it,s a good place to go if you never got a steelie, easy acess but can get a good crowd on a weekend it,s best to hit that spot on a weekday,if you want some info come spring,e-mail me and i,ll give you some places to start.
Thanks for the help. You guys let me know when and where? I would like to find a place that doesn't have a lot of people and I would like to bring my Dad. He would need a place where it is not to hard to get too. But, if I come without him the farther up the better.

If it's a week day it's easy to get room on the rivers. THe weekends can be an adventure sometimes but a long walk can get you some room. The peak should be mid march though mid April. You can bank on that. The only variable to that is how much rain we've gotten and if the rivers are clear.

Predator,
Post/pm me if you find any ice starting to break up! I looked at the chagrin again tonight and it's still rock solid. There was some water running on top of the ice in a few spots but still locked up tight.

Lance sorry for the delay had problems logging on. There is open water north of Independance, and some side tribs but on saturday I didn't feel like turning into a snow man so I didn't fish. I will be checking with sources to see if this area holds enough fish to make it worth my time. If not I will be going to the Rocky or if all fails I'll go east. Tight lines. I'll report Sunday nite.

There's a nice open channel on the Chagrin below Daniels extending beyond the bend. Looks like ice out is coming! Now we just need to wait for the water to comedown and all the Ice jams to clear. SOON! :p
