Looks like your elected to find out for sure!
On your way out put two holes about three feet apart every twenty-five yards or so.
O yea, please dip the slushout also then give me acall,I'll catch up eventually!!!
I have not been on the ice in that area in ten years.
If you do get out- good luck!

Fished inside the dike 2-1-04 with no success...everybody had the same luck. Seen a guy who was fishing on the lake about 200 yards out and he did not get a bite either

Corey,

Links Camp Perry link has a Metzgers mention that notes some perch guys are having pike break offs. Do you know or have any guesses if there are enough to target (C&R)? Any little bit of info would be helpful.

Would you guess this happens both inside & outside?

TIA,
jc

If I would hafta guess, I would say they would only linger around inside the dike. I duck hunt the outside and that is all wide open sand bottom, so i doubt they would be strolling out there, the inside is all weeds, where they like to hang out and feast. We had tip-ups out this past weekend and had one flag fly. The reel was spinning, but by the time we got there, it stopped and the fish dropped it...the whole 5 feet of water doesn't help. Dont know what it was, we had chubs on...4-6 inchers. Very good possibility that they are in there, I wouldn't doubt it...now numbers thats another question. I wouldn't go in there just for pike, I would go up to Houghton Lake or something if I wanted pike....But if you do go, let me know, kinda interested. Its only like 3-5 foot deep in there, so good luck

Corey,

Thank You! That was more info than I expected. I'm in Columbus so it will be an pie in the sky adventure trip if I get up there & I will let you know how it goes. I'm not going to be able to talk anyone into going with me:) It might be my last ice plan after we lose it down here.

If your not already, you might consider a small treble on the tipups. I hook through top of back in front of dorsal. It works well for pike, s-eyes, perch, & crappie. Set immediately & if it's not hooked, it was too small to eat the bait. The fish is always well hooked close to the lips with the only exception I've seen being very aggressive s-eyes and bass minnows (fatheads).

I only caught about a dozen small pike over 1.5 days on a WI adventure yrs ago so can't offer much info. I used big common shiners (sturdier & wider than erie emeralds) but the baitshop near the lake sold several different sizes of chubs & suckers, 2 sizes of shiners, + bass and crappie minnows.

Thanks again,
jc

hey there JCARP
yeah I wouldn't make the trip all the way from Columbus for Metzgers for pike. You would be VERY dissapointed. There are some good lakes just up in souther MI that offers some good pikin' though.
We use i believe #8 and #10 treble hook for pike, so we are using pretty small hooks...Good luck, if you are in the area, we could hook up and go out somewhere...hows the fishin in Central Ohio?
