Last week was smoking hot in SO. The temps have rose and is going to push most of the rutting into the night now.. Here soon if not now they will be in the peak and locked down with the occasional cruiser..

My brother came in for 2 weeks. Third week of oct. and 1st week of nov. Last year he killed 3 deer at wayne. This year he only saw 5 deer total. He has been hunting wayne for many years and knows tons of spots way off the beaten path. He definitely thinks something is wrong. Disease, coyotes, the extra deer tags, ?, ? I hunted 5 hunts and killed a young doe but it isn't like it has been in years past!

We saw a lot less deer while hunting last week than what we usually see. BUT... we also saw 3 times more hunters than we usually see. I think the added pressure in the area we traditionally hunt had the most effect on deer sightings. Like coonie, we also saw 20-30 deer every night while driving back to camp and in the state park. They are there... they're just not stupid.
There were more non-residents hunting around us than I've ever seen in seven years. Guys from all over the country as usual, but in increased numbers. The growing popularity of Ohio as a big buck state along with Charlie Alsheimer's famous rut predictions has really brought the NR's in, and concentrated around the same couple of weeks.

Don't forget to add the open skies at night with the light skies from the recent full moon. The deer were out parting all night long. Add the warm temps and it's a recipe to slow the rut activity down during daylight.

no its contrlled burning of undergrowth so hunters can see deer better and get rid of mora floral rose and promote new growth...not sure i agree with removing safe areas for deer ...i'm sure they will just hole up in the only thick areas on private land...hopefully they leave the thick bottom areas alone...deer need safe havens to have a chance to survive...:D

They usually do it in the late winter, i am surprised that they did it now. Realy poor timing if you ask me.

i guess they dont care about the rut like we bowhunters do...i think they need to look around and see how many bowhunters there are in the woods...its getting to where it is a boost to the local economy...:D

we hunted around telegraph area. drove all through areas coming out and saw only a couple of deer, mainly in the few private property green grass fields. Nothing like years past.
