View Full Version : Beavers
The stupid Billies that think they own every acre of the township I hunt, have effectively trapped all the beavers out of my honey hole. I dont see a problem with trapping, just leave some animals so you can trap in a year or two.
Anyways I was wondering where I could go or who I could contact (prob odnr) to get some to reintroduce.

The beavers will reintroduce themselves. The ODNR will not allow you to realease live beavers, or any other animal for that matter. Very few land owners want them on their property.
It's been about 9 years since they were trapped out. Oh well I guess I'll just wait for them to come back. thanks for the reply.

Wow, nine years? I figured they would have been back by now. I still don't figure they'll let you, but it can't hurt to ask.

The beavers will come back. There is gong to be a lone beaver come and go to check out the area and it will take time to move them in. But nine years is a long time but the are just moving though and not staying. Need to check further up stream.

xx78 , i'm very surprized in that part of the state that they havent come back in there in 9 years. there are more beaver in the n.e. part of ohio than any of the rest . several years back during a couple of high beaver price years and open winters up there, they were trapped pretty hard up there , which is why the season in n.e. ohio was changed to start later than the rest of the state . if you own that property or know the owners and can get there permission , there is a chance you could get some beaver dropped in there . they would be nuisance beavers being trapped alive by a lisenced nuisance trapper out of fur season when the pelts cant be sold . most landowners don't want them , which is a shame because of the great habitat they make for most wildlife . contact the county wildlife officer, if the landowner ok's it and the wildlife officer does , i'm sure he can put you in contact with a nuisance trapper , most of them would rather release a beaver than kill it out of fur season when they can't sell the pelt. its worth looking into . mark
Minker,
Thanks for the heads up. That is a very logical answer. I figured if the landowner is okay with the reintroduction, the odnr would possibly consider it. the landowner doesnt use the property for anything. in addition, the land has recovered in a sense from the other beavers, so they would not have to go far to get their supplies. to me its a shame not having them in the property's ecosystem. I miss setting up on the bank near a deer trail, and watching them patrol the pond as i was deer hunting.
They're back. I saw some fresh trees being worked over by some new beavers as I walked the property during gun season. Took a while, but they are finally back.
