I am planning on going to Indian Lake on Sunday if there is fishable ice. The first time i went ice fishing was last year and that was only on farm ponds. This year I have my own auger and a Vex. If you are going, would it be possible to meet? Or possibly give me a starting location. I have heard long island, but I'm a novice when it comes to ice fishing. Have heard about the ice? Thanks for any info!

I have fished there a few times. Moundwood is decent, but I believe the best ice fishing is in front of Dream Bridge. If there is safe ice you will see plenty of shantys over there.

Hi Scott, how's Dad/Ron a-gettin' along since he moved from IL ~ still keepin' a smile on the Lady's faces?

I just checked the ice thickness on my 3' deep channel ... 3 1/8"es on the tape, but with murky water underneath. I'll take a drive over to Acheson's to Long Isle/Bear Wallow & see if anyone is on the ice in a couple of minutes ~ that area should have clear fishable water, while the NF side of Long Isle is probably stirred up yet from the high water. The lake looks to be close to normal pool today, but with shoreline sag ice.

I just made the 14 mile round trip over to the Long Isle tube bridge & back ... nada soul on the ice or any tracks in the snow, but the ice looks invitin' everywhere, except for the ice ridges n' shove ice on the main & Northside ski area

Barnes channel still has a flow w/one guy slingin' for S-Eyes in a open area about a 100 yds downstream from the rt#235 bridge before the ice sheet started at the Barnes island Y.

Good Luck & be safe you Young Pups that check for safe ice tomorrow!

I believe after 2 years the one dredge has completed it's work in North Fork Bay.

here's a couple of many obervations, along with plottin', that I've done in NF Bay --

-on long isle bridge bay that emptys into nf bay - close to the bridge > you will now find a 12' hole < with both channels cleaned to 6-7' around the old pad bed to nf bay.

-south of the nf silt trap the 2-3' NF bay has been cleaned to 6-7' side-to-side almost to the power lines halfway to O'Connors point & it also hooks into long isle bay & the century 21 channel.

Thanks for the info. I'll be at Long Island all day Saturday trying for eyes and panfish.

LAKE CONDITIONS TODAY
January 22, 2004
11:30 AM - THE LAKE HAS 5 to 7" OF ICE ON IT MOST PLACES. THERE IS AN OPEN WATER BREAK LINE THAT RUNS FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE WEST BANK TOWARDS WOLF ISLAND. ALSO BEWARE OF ICE SHEARS ON THE MAIN LAKE AND AERATORS CREATING OPEN WATER IN DOCK AREAS. INDIAN LAKE STATE PARK RANGERS RECOMMEND 4" FOR ICE FISHING. THE WIND TODAY IS FROM THE WEST NORTHWEST AT 15 MPH. WIND CHILL IS 0°. VISIBILITY IS UNLIMITED. THE LAKE IS 3" ABOVE NORMAL POOL (the top of the spillway). REMINDER: INDIAN LAKE STATE PARK RANGERS RECOMMEND 6" OF ICE ON THE LAKE FOR SNOWMOBILING.

Please remember that lake conditions change quickly. It can be very different in the late afternoon than it was in the morning. Know that anytime you are on the lake you are there at your own risk.

Homeowners using aerators need to limit the area to their own docks to avoid dangerous situations for folks that enjoy the frozen lake in the winter.

I just checked & there still is a wide open lead that runs in front of Chippewa & straight over to the Beach at Blackhawk/Old Field .. I don't know about the rest of the main.
