I’m “Pulling” a Thunderflight here…..:biggrin::biggrin:

Ok, you get to help me(us) out here, plus we can have some fun with it.

We got a call last night from Ray asking me and my friend(MarK) if we have an interest in moving up our Mule Deer hunt 2 weeks earlier.

Mark and I talked Briefly and were debating.:rolleyes::biggrin:

We had the hunt scheduled for the week of November 16.

Ray asked if we want to move it up 2 weeks. 2 weeks earlier would coincide with opening week of the season there.

What would you do?:confused:

I voted to stick with your original plan John...it's going to be cold either way!

I was going to say call me, but I'd tell you to cancel and then buy me a plane ticket so I could instead.:bouncy:

Stick with the rut hunt. The bucks will be in love and not paying attention. Opening day is fine, but remember they've been bow hunted for a few weeks/months so they already know whats up.

"Stay the course."
"Wouldn't be prudent"

Don't change.

Opening week sounds good to me, plus if two weeks later is peak rut, you should hit the chase phase just right with opening day.

Good point Bawana, and good observation.

We have experienced both scenarios in the past, not in Alberta, but on other hunts, so there are some advantages to both of them.

That is what I was thinking also :)

Good input so far......the experience of many shows on your responses.....I wonder what some of the "younger" hunters think?;):biggrin:

keep the status quo unchanged, i have never personally been able to go on a trip to hunt, so if i had the choice id wanna do both and not give up a couple of weeks of good hunting up here. a nice buck slayed in rut, then off to get a trophy muley sounds like a good season to me!

Excellent point, but let's turn the table.

What if you hunt up there early and come back here and hunt peak rut?

Weather already has turned there.....it's cold.

Currently I have 11/5-11/9 off....( Personally, from all my journals are great dates to be in the woods).

I also have the 2 weeks off after this hunt the week of the 16th!:D

My schedule in November allows me to move dates around.....

I am holding some info back which I will say later...but for now.....let's just deal these cards.

Jlope....any thoughts?:confused::D

We have 2 days to make the call, we already are pretty sure we know what we are going to do.:biggrin:

Not bad Gentlemen, were staying the course and hunting on the date we initially selected

What I didn't say is we had that choice in the beginning. I have hunted opening day a few times, and it is well worth it as well.

We went with peak rut, since historically the "biggest" Bucks were taken the 2 weeks prior to Thanksgiving, so we made the decision based on that information.

I also have a few hunts scheduled here for the "chase phase", one of my favorite times to hunt.

Time will tell.......thanks for the input!
