View Full Version : Contest Photo Rules Not Being Followed

It has been brought to my attention that I have been lax in enforcing the rules for entering photos in the deer hunting team contest. It is true and by doing so I have only made it harder on myself and shown disrespect for those who have followed the rules. For this I apologize.

There are photos that are not uploaded to Ohiosportsman, photos with no hunter in them, photos with no visible tag, etc. etc. I am going to atone for my mistakes and reverse the scoring for these deer. It's only right out of respect for the rules and the hunters who have followed them. Any photos not meeting the requirements will be deleted from the photo thread and the score subtracted from the team's total. The hunters whose photo is deleted will have the option of re-entering their deer by: a) if the tag was not shown, reposting the deer with a picture of the tag (I will allow an individual picture of the tag along with the deer photo included in the same post) b) if the hunter not shown, reposting another photo with the hunter in the photo or the deer and a separate picture of the hunter included in the same post c) if the photo has not been uploaded to OhioSportsman photo gallery, upload it and repost.

Future pictures entered in the photo thread that do not meet the requirements will be deleted without notice! It's not that hard folks.

Below are the requirements from the posted contest rules for pictures, follow them or your deer will not count! Before you bombard my pm box with questions, please do a little reading and put some thought into your picture taking.

DIRECTIONS

This contest will include only legal wild Whitetail deer taken during the 2009/2010 Deer season in Ohio.

If you have a successful hunt, submit your deer for scoring by completing the following (if any steps are missed or incorrect your deer WILL NOT count!!!):

1- Take a picture w/ you and the entire deer. (Not just the head!) A 2009/2010 Ohio Deer Tag must also clearly be displayed in the picture. Displaying the weapon used is optional.

2-Upload your deer to the Ohiosportsman.com 2009 Ohio Deer Contest Photo Gallery (i.e. photobucket or similar links will not count) along with the following information:

A- Title the picture: Team#_Type of deer_

B- In the body you MUST fill in the following fields:

Your team name and number
Sex of the deer
The number of tines that are longer than 1 inch (main beam counts) - (If 1 inch tine is questionable supply a photo with a measurement against the tine for verification.)
Date the deer was taken.

Yep, supposed to be fun Joe...and for the most part it is. But I was questioned about it and I guess we got to have some guidelines and if they aren't being followed why have em. It's really not that hard to take a qualifying photo or photos...geesh.

I know I'm going to get criticized and flamed for this...for following the rules. Go ahead on I can take it. This will be my last year running the contest.

I can appreciate the integrity that it takes to do something like this. It says a lot about what kind of man you are 45. Keep up all the good work.

I'm with you 45, I have noticed that the rules were not being followed but was not going to say anything. If we have them they should be followed no flames here just an atta boy.

I wasn't giving you grief 45.. I agree with your stance.. Rules are Rules.. Once they are made they should be followed and enforced.. I was just saying it surprised me people were wetting their pants over it.. Jeez there isn't even a prize.. I guess it shouldn't surprise me though.. the past couple years the picture rules have pretty much been the same and people still mess it up.. And some got called on it.. It'll only get worse when you have something that's supposed to be fun amongst friends, but let every tom dick and harry with 30 posts play..

Given any thought to my suggestion of kill first contest later...

Teams are formed in groups of 5, in the order the kills are posted correctly in the picture thread..

Easier to form teams, Keeps the pics straight, rules were followed even before becoming a team, and you got rid of the sign ups that have every intention of killing a deer, but fail to kill one the entire season or even come back after check in..

That way, the only people in the game, are the ones playing the game and following the rules...

And for the record, nobody had their panties in a bunch, just mentioned it to me and I decided they had a valid question.

Thanks for your input guys, I do appreciate it :D

45....

It's not your job to worry about who entered what.

Your doing this as a "courtesy" and it's your time.

My simple comment is that the photos are entered per the rules and followed as directed.

Any photo not in compliance, doesn't count, and no points are given etc.... It puts the burden on those posting, the way it should be.....my 2 cents>

If it wasn't for you, the contest most likely wouldn't happen so everyone should appreciate your effort!!

Thanks for organizing and maintaining the contest 45! I appreciate your efforts.

Additionally, I agree with 56, non-compliance = no entry (not your issue to hold hands).

Are you saying that you entered a picture of a road kill, that you claimed to shoot, into the contest pictures? Just asking.

Guys I appreciate ya all running and entering this contest, but one of the very basic things we asked for is for the pictures to be uploaded here. I hope that's not too much to ask. There are a couple of very easy ways to upload photos here. I think our photo gallery easy of use has been brought right up there with Photobucket and other services and we really want the Big Bucks to be hosted right here on our website.

45, I wish I was in the contest but I knew with this job I would not have the time to hunt like I want to , it would not be fair to the other members of the team. With that said, you are a stand up guy and one of the driving forces to keep this site what it is......GREAT! Keep up the good work and hang in there buddy!:D

Can't argue with that Steve. The things you have added to the site really are not that hard to use or figure out how to use them so there shouldn't be any excuses. I just want to thank you again for allowing us to use your site and have all the great things you have given us at our finger tips .

OK folks...I'm done uploading pictures for those who for whatever reason are posting photobucket images in the contest score thread. I don't have the time. I'm going to start deleting any images not linked to the Ohiosportsman galleries (will not count toward team score).

Remember, not only must you upload to Ohiosportsman gallery, the pic submitted for scoring should be that image code!
Sorry, that's just the way it is...

Thank you deerhunt45 for your efforts and I don't blame you for not wanted to upload anymore pictures for guys here. Come on, uploading a picture into our 2009 contest gallery on this site is no more difficult than on photobucket or any other photo sharing site. It's the only thing we ask for in exchange for hosting the contest.
