Simon Hughes, a five-year-old from Goodrich, Texas, was surprised by an 800-pound alligator but showed courage by taking it down with his .410-gauge shotgun.
In this report from the The Houston Chronicle, Simon reported yelled "holy moly" and shot the second largest alligator ever taken in the state from five feet away.
The gator did a couple rolls in died. They didn't know how large the alligator was until it was pulled out of the water.
