well im soon to have a horton 175 , i have used spitfire broad heads in the past on my compound with not so good results , i shot a doe that ran for over a mile and another guy killed her but he was nice enough to give her to me cause i tracked her for so long, so technically i havent got my first bow kill yet cause if he wouldnt have got her i may have never found her, anyway, im going back to crossbow cause of carpotunnel in my wrist and i was wondering if any one has done any good with spitfires or rages on a crossbow, or which ever broad head works for you guys that shoot em

I have shot the shockwave mechanicals and just wasn't happy witht them, I think I even had one come open in flight. I have found that the WASP 3 blades shoot extremely well and have been very happy with them. Likely will never go back to mechanicals, just no reason to add another veriable to the process.

When I used to use a xbow, I always shot 100 grain Thunderheads.. My dad swore by them as well.. At the time we shot Horton Yukon SL`s.. Now my dad is shooting a Horton Legacy 200 (200lb recurve limbs).. Hes shooting Rage 2 blades out of them and loves them (as do I out of my compound).. If you can make any sharp head hit where your aiming out of the xbow, they`ll all kill a deer as dead as dead can get..

Killed my first deer with Rage and a Horton 150 xbow. Ran 70 yds. Saturday a doe ran approx 50 yds(cp) and died 21 yds in front of my blind. Massive entrance and a blow thru. Go to my profile and you can see somewhat on the sideways pic a idea of the hole. And it goes without saying shot placement.

Buckblasters 125 mechanical w/ 2 3/4 " cutting . Deer run max 50 yards , but as long as its a good kill shot . They leave a great blood trail . I have never had one open up on me during flight .... Yet .

NAP Spitfire 100gr. expandable broadheads. We've used them for years and they open EVERY TIME!! The doe I shot on 9/29/09 ran only 40yds. The broadhead was a complete pass through and took out both lungs and clipped her heart. I shot her with the Spitfire on a Horton aluminum 20" arrow out of my Hunter Super Max 175.

I used the 100's for around 4yr. After cracking a limb with an unknown reason to why. It was never dry fired or dropped. Horton suggested that I should be using a 125's w/a 175lb. pull.

I have been using muzzey 3 blade 125 for years, and have harvested over 50 deer - I tried a Mec. broadhead when they first came out and lost a nice buck on first shot. and went back the 125's

I trailed a doe last year which I never recovered (Lots of blood at the start of the trail and nothing at the end! ( I have gone over the shot in my mind a 1000 times) I looked good - but the truth is, It couldn't have been- I am thinking if I had used a larger blade (IE Rage Mec.) I would have recovered the doe) I will try the rage this year.

Bottom line is shot placement and arrow flight will put the meat in the freezer.

You should first check and see what weight broadhead the manufacturer recommends. For my 345 fps Barnett they recomend a 125 grain. Some manufacturers will also post a numer of "approved" broadheads that they have tested, this is also a good starting point.

I have been using the Spitfires for a number of years with 100% results. They crush deer. My last two bow kills tipped over within 40 yards. Of course good shot placement helps a lot

I've been using the Rocket Mini Blasters since I started hunting 3 years ago. I've taken 5 deer with them and am extremely pleased.

I'm using a 175 HD Horton Legend - always have used Carbon arrows. Early on, I made some bad shots but realized that the blades were probably opening up, I've used double bands since then and have not had a problem. The tip is sharp and hard, it will get the broadhead a nice place to enter and not bounce off. Clean pass through shots are the norm, and have always had great blood trails, and a few instant drops.

I shoot Muzzy 3 blade 125's outta my 200lb horton with awesome results. At that poundage, there's some serious energy behind that bolt, makes for nice big holes :coolgleamA:

My dad uses http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod-wrapped.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/pod-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat21404-cat601662-cat601525_TGP&rid=&indexId=cat601525&navAction=push&masterpathid=&navCount=1&parentType=index&parentId=cat601525&id=0046561

out of his 175 horton. Man are those things sharp, and the price is right.

I use 100gr Muzzy MX-4's with my Excalibur Phoenix and I love 'em. They've killed bucks and does alike, with excellent results!

I use Slick Tricks, 125 gr. I shoot a lower poundage Vixen mostly now. I kinda prefer cut on contack heads with slower bows but, have used expandable Spitfires and Shockwaves heads with my Exomag with good results.

Really I believe a good sharp BH put where it needs to be works. Just make sure they group well out of your bow.

125 thunderheads!!! Used for 17 years still use the Horton that I bought in the early 90's. I have shot deer and used the broadhead for the next few years ( shot placement is key) But they are durable and deadly!!!

I can only comment on the one I use with my Parker Xbow, which is the expanding Spitfire 125s. I have shot six deer with six pass throughs. I use the 125 for the kinetic energy. The bow is already fast enough. Here is a pic of my latest and greatest who went fifteen yards.

I picked up Muzzy 3 blade 100g for my Horton Summit HD 150. Hopefully I'll see some good results this weekend/next week when I take to the woods.

Last year I shot a buck with a cheap 3-for-$10 fixed broadhead (can't remember the brand). 2 of the 3 blades broke off in the deer, so the exit wound was small and the blood trail extremely light (I did recover the buck). So this year I was looking for something that was more durable and would leave a good blood trail. I bought the Carbon Express F-15 fixed broadhead. It looks gimmicky and are expensive ($40 for 3), but in theory the concept is good. I'll post about them once I've shot a deer with them. Anyone try these yet?

Here's a link to them on Cabela's website (http://www.cabelas.com/p-0068629418972a.shtml)
