I was really looking forward to hunting with my son this year. Everything was falling together. Then they dropped the bomb. This will be the fourth year that Brad has been unable to make our deer camp.
Seems the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. :tsk: Brad was do to cycle out of country, on Mon. {Irac} He was told his tour has been extended indefinitely, yesterday Morn. :irked:
They have already sent all there gear stateside. No gun or body armor. These guys are stuck, big time. They cannot leave there barrics with out a armed guards present, even for a smoke. Worst part, it will continue to be like that until there gear comes back, which could take up to a month. :(
My wife and I, + his gal pal, had already made all the arrangements to be in Fort Hood upon his arrival. This really blows!
He has done a tour in Korea, and now Irac. He's been shot at on several occasion's. He has had the passenger in the truck he was operating shot an killed by a sniper. He has saved a mans life that was shot in heavy fire. He's been a victim of a IED, knocking the he!! out of the truck he was operating and receiving over a 100 stiches in his left calf. :yikes:
SEND MY BOY HOME!

Sorry to hear about your dissapointment. At a time like this I'm sure it's hard to be happy, but remember that you can always be proud in what he is doing. Hopefully he will make it home soon, healthy, and shoots a big one. I think God should make Booners walk under a lot of these guy's stands.

Prayers for your son and their safety. Prayers to your entire family here at home. It's scary...I know. My son leaves out in December sometime for his second tour. God bless these young men and women for their service. I thank them everyday!

Thanks fella's for your thoughts, wishes an imputes. I know these guys are Army tough and have broad shoulder's. They will take what is dished out an do what is needed from them, to the best of there ability. We are very proud of them. We also try an keep an upper chin with encouragements, no matter how bad the news.
We knew when they went overseas, that there was a possibility of an extention. It has been one of the major conversations we've all had since around June. Once they sent all there gear home, some 3 weeks eariler, everyone thought, cool, were goin home. No one expected the bomb 3 days before cycling out. This is the main reason for my ventin out to you all.
Dan, Hope you don't mind me sharing your P.M. I really apperechate the jester. I felt it was easier answering your questions an what others may be wondering.
I read your post about your son's delayed return with mixed emotions - disappointment (for your missed reunion and hunt), anger (for the piss-poor way this thing is being run, and reading that he's basically being held hostage <armed guards, for real?>. ) and pride (I feel pride in all our servicemembers). That whole thing just blows.
It's nothing big, but if you give me your son's address I'll make sure he gets some deer jerky and magazines for himself and his buddies, and send him a letter with the package. It would be an honor.
Thanks and best wishes,
Dan
The armed guards thing is all about protection for the guys that can't protect themselfs without there gear. Tho they are in a fairly secure base, it isn't impossible for a sniper to be close by. It is even more probable when the winds are high and with all the sand, visibility can be zero for long periods of time.
I apprechate the jerky jester and would take you up on it, BUT.........
I don't think they know where they are going to be tomorrow all along a week or two from now.
Here is the deal as we know it now, after making a third party contact yesterday.
According to the Army, there is a major paperwork foul-up, making this the reason for the delay. Those guy's all feel they are getting smoke blowed up there ass. After doin a little checking on our own, they are still expected in Hood by next weekend.
It ain't goin to happen. The relief troops have arrived. Now there is no room for that many troops there.
Our boys are now heading to Bagdad instead of Kuwait. { this is where they were to cycle out of.} They are suppose to be in route, now. That is all anyone knows for sure.
Was hoping to hear from him yesterday. To many guys with to few of phones. I'll keep an update as I can.
Thanks again, Ron

Thanks for the update. I hope he makes it home soon! I was in the guard for 9 1/2 years. Had drill the weekend after 9/11. We drilled in Urbana, and the mechanics would head down to the motor pool in Springfield to work. You couldn't imagine the heads that turned, salutes, thumbs up, etc on our way that weekend. It was all I could do to hold back tears as the sense of pride and patriotism was overwhelming. I still feel that pride for our troops, and I know I am not alone on here with feeling the pride for our troops. I wish the rest of the country still felt this way. Many do, but too many people don't give it a second thought. Words cannot express my appreciation for your son, you, and your family for what they are going through. "Thank you" just does not seem to be enough, but it is all I can say for his service to our great nation. Thank you, good luck, and he is in my prayers. Phil

Well, we hadn't heard 1 dang thing since my last post. Ft. Hood called us yesterday evening, and said he was in the air as we speak. Ceremony will be at 6:30 this evening. Dang, to short of a notice. We can't get there. At least he's coming home.

I know all about it. My son was in Iraq 3 months after he grad OSU. came back a year, back to Iraq again. then he went to Germany about year, now at Bagram Air Base. They take rockets once in a while. He might get back next May and head for an even more dangerous place, Washington DC. For those of you democrats, Clinton downsized the army to a ridiculous level. Bush could not bring it back, to an adequate size to rotate troops. now we got a clueless commander in chief, who does not want a military. A lot of people made a serious mistake last fall. Especially the people who nominated McCain to run.
