Can you cut down regular arrows to 20 inch crossbow bolts? I was wondering since bolts are like 35-40 dollars for 6 and arrows are much cheaper. I realize i'd probably have to take them to Bss Pro or somewhere but ,can this be done?

No, they make crossbow bolts specifically for crossbows....I think a crossbow would shatter compound arrows.

Non crossbow arrows have to much flex for a crossbow.

I have seen it done and they flew just like a bolt would but in order to turn a cut carbon into a bolt, you are going to be spending more money in accessories then anything. Just go buy 3 or 4 bolts individually. They are durable and will last quite a few seasons. Im going on 4 seasons with 3 of the same bolts and the same one has went through 4 different deer. Just buy bolts to be safe anyways. You never know what could happen with the cut down arrows.

Yes you can, if you use 2219 aluminum arrows. Have done it for my buddy and they fly perfectly outta his Horton;)

Turkeyfoot is right, I have been shooting 2219s/ 19 7/8" out of a PSE Crossfire for 15yrs. My buddy has been shooting 2219s out of his PSE Firefox for 17yrs he even added about 2" to his bolts. I'm not sure about a Horton since it rides on a rail. The PSE crossbows shoot a 4 fletch arrow, Hortons a 3 fletch and the PSE is more like a compound being that there is no rail. In no way shape or form am I saying a PSE is a compound.

I use Gold Tip Expedition 75/95 shafts cut to 17.5. mini blazer vanes, 125 slick trick mag heads. Shoot them out of a newer model 150 lb. Excalibur Vixen, fast flight string.
They work quite well for a small slower bow like the Vixen.
I only take shots at 20 yards or less with the little Vixen though.
I think the small diameter carbon shafts along with being short with the small mini blazer vanes and a cut on contact head allows easier pass throughs. Less friction after the broadhead cut's through.
I've killed quite a few deer with this set up, as I'm in an urban zone, all have been clean pass throughs with very short recoveries and excellent blood trails.
The little Vixen is a good deal easier on servings than my Exomax and old Exomag. Also if I forget my rope cocer it's not a problem with the Vixen.

Just picked up some 2219's my buddy put together for me. He had told me he quit using them some time ago [ new in the box ] an would let me have them if I bought the nocks. I picked up a doz. in Shelby. The 2219's weighed 23gn. more then the Horton LS 2 Lite. Should be a lifetime supply for me, since I still have 4 out of the 6 bolts I started with around 8 yrs. ago. I have a whole buck eighty in a doz. bolts, I'll learn to shoot them. :coolgleamA:
