I know it is now squirrel season but am looking for an answer for my problem. I live outside of the city limits but still in a residential area. I have about 20 different squirrels digging into the wifes houseplants on the patio. I have a Beeman break action pellet rifle but would like to know if it is illegal to shoot it out the back door. I have houses about 100' away in all directions and the gun is just about as loud as a 22, but not quite. I would hate for the sherrif to show up and pull his gun or the game warden. Does anyone know if I can shoot these things legally or do I have to use a live trap?

well as long as it is not an incorperated residential are and as long as you have a valid hunting liscense than you should be able to. You might want to check with your game warden just to be sure. Also as far as the neighbors go I would say that most likely you are not the only one having squirrel problems, so they might not give you any trouble. :bouncy:

Just purchase a box trap and bait with sunflower seeds. Handle the rest in the privacy of your garage.

Hmm, I'm thinking if you have to ask, you may want to contact a local peace officer.

If you are outside of the corporation limits then the city or village shoudn't be able to say anything. If you are shooting the squirrels on your own property then you don't even need a liscense. This is straight from the ODNR website.
• Landowners, spouses and their children - Are not required to have a hunting license, fur taker permit, deer permit, antlerless deer permit, spring or fall turkey permit or Ohio Wetland Habitat Stamp when they are hunting or trapping on land they own. Members or shareholders of a corporation or L.L.C. do not qualify as landowners and must purchase all licenses and permits.
Squirrel away my man!!!! (If you are outside the corp. limits)
MAN...
I'm sure glad I live in the country...:D
You should be able to shoot em based on what you described.

Guys, you are still not allowed to hunt from a structure. You must be 400 feet (I think that's right) from any structures to hunt, even with a bow.
Your best bet if you want to kill them is traps. 110 conibear traps or even large rat traps will work (unless you have very large squirrels). The rat traps are a lot easier and cheaper. Bait with peanut butter (before you set the trap!) and secure them somehow right next to the missus flower pots. Check them often and keep the pets away!
(But I doubt you will get in trouble if you want to sit there and shoot them - they have to catch you / have proof(video) or you have to admit it when they come to talk to you if they ever do...)
Good luck.
