If you found yourself lost and 1 week out from any help what so ever and you only had 1 thing in your pocket, what would it be?

I'll take a Knife...

Fire Starter -- I can make a bow and spindle to start a fire with my knife and bootlaces.

Wire, string or cord-- I have bootlaces and can make cord from braided bark.

Mirror- Shined in wet sand and polished with wet ash a knife blade can be a signal mirror.

Compass- Use the sun, or your wristwatch if you have one with hands..

Water Purification System- Purified water (bacteria free) can be found if you know where to look or how to collect it.

Tarp/Tent -- Shelter can be made with a knife by cutting vegetation and some braided lashings

A Knife can carve a spear for gigging...

A Knife can also
cut triggers for deadfalls and spring snares..
gut and clean critters..
and tons more

If I had to pick 1 from the list, It would be a knife. Jackalope makes good points.

If I was going for the easy week and not worried cause I knew that in 7 days, help would find me, I may opt for the fire starter and break/Knapp a rock for a edge to cut with. It may not work as easly as a knife but it would cut too.

Either way, it would be an adventure.

YA know I had typed a region when I first posted this then backed it out. Yes, to some, the location may make a difference. For this one it can be wherever your mind first took you when you finished reading the question.:eek:

I voted I'm screwed. I get lost almost everytime in the 800 acres of public land I hunt. And I usually stay in the same 250-300 acres.

But if I did get lost...I hope I remembered my knife!!

I was torn between the knife and fire starter. I went w/ the fire starter because I felt like I could probably find something to cut with. Then I read jack's post, and second guessed myself.

It's still a toss up to me, I think either/or would get me by.
