And you wouldn't mind saying a prayer for my uncle, I'm sure he could use it right about now...
My uncle Herbie is my dad's big brother and someone both he and I deeply respect and have for all our lives. It seems my uncle has always had to face adversity going back to his days in Vietnam. He is a recent survivor of cancer and I just found out today that a gas line exploded next to him this morning causing second and third degree burns to his face, neck, arms, and chest. He is in Cabell County, WV right now, but will most likely be air lifted to Columbus or Pittsburgh this evening. My uncle is a tough old bastard, but a man can only take so much. Vietnam, the coal mines, a nasty divorce, cancer, and now this. If you wouldn't mind, ask the good Lord to give him the strength to pull outta this one too...

Thanks fellas. You can't find better people than Ohio sportsman...
My uncle was life flighted to Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV. He did not burn his lungs which was good and he was coherent when the paramedics were there. Still a long road ahead, but he is not as behind the 8 ball as he could be. I'll keep ya'll posted. Thanks again.

I finally heard from my old man. Things were better than we all first thought. His lungs are in good condition and he is awake and talking. He doesn't look too swift as you can imagine, but they don't think they will have to do a skin graft on his face, only on his shoulder and arm. Overall, everything sounded as positive as it could given the situation.
My uncle spent 31 years in a coal mine and never got hurt all that bad. He retired and started tending wells down in Meigs County not too long ago. He was working on a well this today when his propane torch he was using tipped over and caught some grass on fire. The grass was so dry, it went up catching a 2" plastic line on fire inside the dyke on the location. He was trying to put it out when the line exploded. The explosion completely melted his glasses. Certainly a freak accident...

Well I saw pics of him yesterday and it sure ain't pretty, but we got word that the doctors think some of the 3rd degree burns may only be 2nd degree burns. I guess my uncle was cracking some good jokes about having to get naked in front of two good looking young nurses. His words: "They asked if I needed a towel and I told them I didn't mind if they didn't. Well, I dropped my drawers and he was scared! I tried to fluff him up, but it still looked like a button on an old fur coat!" LMAO! I guess it can't be real horrible if he can maintain a sense of humor like that!

Well it sounds like he has a positive mental attitude about everything. Which I believe is a big part of the recovery process. We will continue to keep praying for him and the rest of the family.
