I was out Monday morning trying to call in coyotes. While bowhunting, I hear the coyote howls and occasionally see one. Monday I was using a coyote locator & rabbit in distress tape. This area has very few rabbits since it is mostly woodland with not many open fields and no planted crops. Any help would be appreciated. I am still new to this sport and need any tips seasoned veterans can pass on. Thanks:)

Try right along the edges and any high spots. Watch the wind. Iuse a tape player also and keep the speaker away from me. I also use a small stuffed animal for a decoy. Set it up on a stump or log. Tie it down because sometimes hawks or an owl will come in and try for it. It will get your heart to pumping when it happens.
I use a 22 hornet for open woods and for thick stuff I use a 3 inch 12ga with #4 buckshot. Keep at it, there out there. Good luck. "Matt"
Big open right of ways thru wooded areas would be my choice.;) Fresh snow on the ground here this morning guys. Gotta go!:D

Good luck 205 heading out to clear fence row for farmer tomorrow so will have to pass on yotes this weekend ,but will be out next weekend if you want to hook up some place just let me know early so can make arrangements.
In wooded area i try the edges betweeen open fields and any opening in the woods old logging roads, also i try to put my recorder in a place that looks like a rabbit might get stuck or hide that is hurt. The best time i think would be in the morning between day break and noon.i have not tried it at night yet but will some day.
Hey Shane, if you wanna try one I'll go. Your area or mine. I know the area around Cadiz if you wanna try there. Lakeview sounds like Cleveland? Pretty good hike for you. Anyway, shoot me a PM and we can set something up. Me and Varmintr are supposed to give er a shot Monday. I might head up tomorrow and do a little scouting after I feed my cattle. This fresh snow is a big plus on locating them critters. Good hunting guys!:)

Bill, you shouldnt have any problem patterning them with that weapon you have waving around up there. That thing have a grenade launcher on it.:) As far as those tracks in your back yard, hopefully there wont be as many after tomorrow.;) Cya in the morning James.
