I have been to Ontario the past five years bear hunting . Wonder if any one here has a place they would like to recommend ? Looking to go north or northwest of Wawa . We are looking for somthing a little closer as we need to add a days hunt to the end of the trip as we have been having to cut the trip short one day for work reasons . Not looking for 125 lb bears so I expect a 15 hour trip. Thank you for any input !!!!!!!

i used to hunt NW of Wawa back in arround Crayfish, Knife, and Upper and Lower Jimmy Cash lakes, always had good luck. Go back the access road past the Jimmy Cash lakes and that will take you almost back down to lake Superior, nice bears back in that area. When we hunted there you never ran into anyone back there. You will need dirt bikes or 4 wheelers to get there, but you had better check the regs, maybe not legal. Do you have to have a guide now or can you still bait on your own? Been a long time since i have been there, 1980 to be exact, killed my last bear that season, got no rush out of it, so i quit hunting them.
There used to be a guide by the name of Dale there at Wawa, he was good, knew him pretty well. He has prob hung it up by now but could prob turn you onto a good guide if one is needed. Like i said, i don't know if it is legal to bait on your own now.
If i can be of any help PM me, i have 7 years experience doing it.

Thanks for the reply . In Ontario you have to go thru an outfitter. That area you speak of is a BMA Bear Managemant Area own by Rick Dickson out of Wawa . I am like you in a way , bears in general do not give me a rush unless they are BIG . A doe, a small rack buck or a small bears does nothing for me anymore . Taken too many of them I guess. I have had more fun the past three years "teaching" my wife to bow hunt . She has taken 3 bears (one 8 yr old bear that would qualify for P & Y) and an adult doe with her bow. I sat with her when she took all three bears and filmed the last two as she was to nervous for me to tape the first one . She teaches school and gets very little time to deer hunt , so an August bear hunt is about all the bow hunting she gets to do much of. I don't have a son so I tell friends she is the son I never had . The bear hunt also allows us to fish and pick blueberries . Blueberry picking also allows us to watch for bears . Year before last I put the "stalk" on a nice bear with my bow but could not get him broadside . That was as much fun as sitting in a tree. Thanks Again !!

My father has used "Bear Busters", was pleased, and had success. I think they are online so you should be able to look them up.
