Holy Bat poop Robin what a team, if we can keep from the in-fighting and smack talkin' each other then there is no doubt we'll eat the other teams lunches!

Ben, got your introductory pm, sorry to hear about your niece.

Me, as most of you know, I'm Jesse. I am an avid golfer, guitar picker and own a pakaging, printing, and mailing servies company in Kettering Ohio, smallish company with 26 employees right now but have had as high as 120 employees before the economy tanked...but am bringing back 15 on Monday.

I have 3 kids, 10, 5 , and 4 have been married for 14 years or so. Wife is in managment at Miami Valley Hospital.

My business is not making me rich of which it probably could, but instaed I use it as a means to do whatever I want when I want, which translates into me having enough money to play golf around 120-130 times per year, take 3 or 4 weeks off during hunting season, and to play in a band. I guess I put in around 20-25 hours per week working, the rest of the time I'm "playng" at something.

I hunt on 600 acres or so around the Waverly area, got a camper and hang out there a lot during hunting season, is about a 1.5 hour drive for me to get there.

"Dream Team" sounds good.

Guess I better check in. Charlie here.

Glad to be on the team. I'm due to connect on a biggun this year. Of course I've been saying that for several years now
So really, I have no expectations or predictions. Just going to have fun, enjoy the time I get in the woods and shut up and hunt!

My house is on the market for sale so I may (hope) a move happens this fall. Also, the wife hasn't been in the best of health. But I will be hunting every chance I get...just gotta go with the flow.

Looking forward to swapping lies with you fellers. I never go to a campfire without my geetar and oh, I don't know kumbaya, will have to learn that one :D

Take some good home selling notes for me Charlie. I'm going to try to DYI in a year or so as well. I'm getting 15 new windows installed in the next couple weeks to help spruce the place up a bit and add to its resale value. I'm also takinig advantage of the govt tax credit for new windows. I've been working at clearing a wooded lot for the past 3 years for my next place. My homesite is cleared, the 1400 foot driveway installed, and pond installed. My current homesite is now a one acre foodplot I planted last weekend.

I did get out and scout a couple hours later in the morning ...it was wet out and still spitting rain off and on from about 9 to noon.
Should have taken the chain saw with me but forgot it :coco: so I didn't go all the way out to my farthest stand which is about 3/4 mile from the barn with the last 1/4 mile following a deer trail into the bottoms.
Still really thick, green and buggy in duh jungle

Shot the compound yesterday...grouping consistently inside a 3" circle at 25 yards. Should be good out to 30. Now all I have to do is get close enough :mischeif:

As always, I look forward to the fall in Ohio, the harvest seasons...so many outdoor opportunities including bowhunting for deer...the chance to get close to a big whitetail buck...it really is a great place to be :coolgleamA:

Sorry guys! To say the least it's been a crazy year. Things were going well earlier in the year till July 2nd when my Stepmom had a stroke. It was a really bad one and she's still paralyzed on her left side. A few weeks ago they had to operate again because they found a golf ball sized tumor in her brain and they immediately removed that. She starts radiation next week and she's feeling really good all things considered after some rehab. I just wanted to put my summer in perspective, that's been on my mind. I still have found time though to work out (need that stress relief) and yes, make beer, I'm a homebrewer and I'm kicking that effort up now too. I've also been doing some camping with the family.

I can't wait to get out there and sit in that treestand and watch it all unfold! It's going to be an exciting season. I have about 4 or 5 vacation days planned for bow season between Oct 31st and Nov. 12th, making some long weekends basically!

Buckmaster
09-01-2009, 08:35 PM
Bill,
Welcome. I know all to well about brain tumors. We lost my mother in law 16 months ago to one at the age of 55. Now my 9 year old neice has an inoperable cancerous brain tumor which appears now to be taking over. :nono: Life has been reduced to one good day and one normal moment at a time this year. I'm a wine maker looking to make the switch over to beer making soon so I can use a few tips of the trade. My first red wine submission 5 years ago took first place out of 33 so I must be doing something right, or wrong.:D

OLDHAT

Hate to hear that about your step-mom TritonBill, lost my father to cancer around 14 months ago, tuff stuff to deal with he was a non-smoker non drinker and ran 3 miles 5 days a week, you never know who it's gonna hit and when, he was 65.

Glad to haveyou on board. Looks like we have a good team. I'm not on anything "big" this year, but I tend to take a good deer every other year....well last year I didn't get one so this will be my year!

Alright "The Dream Team" we are gonna have to live up to our name, I think we've got a bit of work to do this year. I know all of us can whack a few does about any damn time we want, so in a few weeks let's start laying them low and hanging um' high, cause if we get it rolling these boys on here won't be able to stand us and all the crap talking that will go on!

They aren't kidding about the deadline to turn in your entries! I read over the rules again as a refresher. It wound up not mattering last year, my team was way out of it, but I had my first doe killed early (5 points). I killed another one (doe) in late November, also, but was waiting to enter it only after I saw I was not going to kill a buck. I went to enter it the day after season closed, anyway, and no-could-do! The thread was closed, game over. So make sure if you have deer to enter late in the season, do it before midnight of the last day!

Barring a crazy injury or something extraordinarily odd, you can chalk me in for at least 10 points, I kill my fair share of does. It will be the buck killin' that wins this thing, though! I figure since I let a lot of small bucks go last year, it will pay off with a good one this year. :D

I described it in a song I wrote as:

"Country Bluegrass music with a Classic Rock sound".

Seeing that we have a mandolin, banjo, and dobro player in the band we are limited to a sound/genre. Outside of bluegrass we play a lot of Old Crow Medicine Show, Grateful Dead, Phish, Mother Earth, Bob Dylan, The Band (The Weight, Cripple Creek), adn Gillian Welsh and I toss in some Neil Young. The bass player and I are fairly proficinet in blues and he and I will do a few blues songs when the rest of the band is between sets.

So yes, we play a bit of bluegrass and a lot of other stuff to go with it.

Hope you all had a "dream" weekend like I did...salmon fished with my buddies for two days (even got the wives out fishing one afternoon), played golf Sunday morning and then jammed with the band Sunday afternoon/evening at the cook out. Capped it off with Monday morning brunch cooked along the Lake Michigan shore. Absolutely gorgeous weather, the fishing was slow (we got a few but we worked for them and they were smaller fish), the golfer was ok , the music was fabulous, had a local up and comer sitting in with us and man can he sing and play :coolgleamA:

I have league this Thursday and a scramble on Saturday and Sunday (if the knee holds up) then I put the clubs away and focus totally on bowhunting. I expect to see plenty of deer and I won't shoot a buck unless it's P&Y. Dream on!

TheCream

I was playing with my new tree stand over the weekend. Just like I shoot my bow a lot over the summer, I hang stands in the back yard a few times to make sure I know what I'm doing before the opener, especially with new equipment. I shot from the stand several times, took the stand/sticks down, and realized my EZ Hanger was still up there. Pre-season error. :D

I thought I broke my foot Friday night. I had said tree stand out of the box, attached the seat cushion, and leaned it up against my bed. I walked in a few hours later (before you ask, I WAS sober), no light on in the room, forgot the stand was there, and bashed my right foot off the stand. It's sore, but nothing is broken! :irked::bouncy:

TritonBill
09-08-2009, 05:25 PM
I was able to get 4 stands ready for deer season and have 2 more to go. I usually hang one here where I live, 3/4 back home and 1 or 2 at a buddies house. I'm sore from doing all that climbing, screwing in tree steps, hanging stands, etc. Other than that had a great weekend visiting family back home, my Stepmom made it home finally for the first time after her stroke (on july 2nd). We drank a few homebrew beer, sat around the campfire, had some awesome meals and great family time!

On Sunday I managed to brew 2 different 5 gallon batches of beer with my newly devised DIY brewing equipment, one Raspberry Wheat and Apricot American Amber Ale. Right now I have 15 gallons of beer in my closet just a fermenting away. That's a good way to start my fall. :) I will likely do another 15 by November/December and then another 15-20 by March. LOL, I do have quite a few friends that drink beer. Just so you know, I appreciate good beer and respect good beer and myself probably have only a couple per week...just saying, i can't drink all this on my own! haha.

I also found time to get 2 runs in, one on trails back home and another on the road. I started running again earlier this year, I used to be a Cross country and Track runner back in High School and College days at Mount Union college. I gave it up for about 15 years until this year. For those 15 years I did a lot of cycling instead (both road and mountain biking).

So...to sum it all up.. great weekend!

Cream: You've got way to much time on your hands..you need a gal, maybe one you can take to "brunch" and "sip" beer with.

Cover Charge: You guys are killing me, I'm a starving artist, you have to help a brother out with my "intellectual property" that I possess in being an artist and at least chip a buck into my old hat on the street.

Pass me some skunk brew, I'm a chugger and I typically start drinking right around Brunch.

I spent my weekend at home. Took the kiddies to the fair Saturday.
Sunday I took down 3 trees, converted my kids swing set into an elevated deer blind (I learned it from Jeff Foxworthy), and brush hogged a couple trails throughout my wood lot, and sprayed Round up around of my treestands to rid off poison ivy. Monday we went to the Akron zoo with the entire family, parents, sister, and neice all included. Moved 5 ton of landscape boulders yesterday afternoon in the rain. I'm a little sore today thus I'm relaxing on OS.com. Tmorrow I'm putting up the last tree stand, racking 15 gallons of 2008 wine, and shredding a dozen cabbage for sourkraut.

I took the family to our place in Jefferson county on Friday evening, we cooked pork chops over the campfire for dinner, and then the girls made s'mores while I had a few cocktails with my wife.

Saturday I rototilled and we planted close to 2 acres for fall food plots. I put about 1/2 in Pro-Graze and the rest in Merit Seeds Forage Oats. Hopefully it rained down there like it did up here. I also replenished the mineral sites with Lucky Buck, and cleaned out a couple of the mini-waterholes I put in last fall using 55 gallon plastic drums I cut in half. I had spent 5 hours on last Monday morning chainsawing and cleaning off the trails from the recent wind storms we had down there.

My dad got down mid-morning to work on the water pump in the cabin, and my partner came also to help with the food plot. We also went to an auction about noon down the street where my buddy bought a few guns. I didn't see anything I wanted.

The rest of the weekend we rode fourwheelers, sat around the campfire and the girls played in the creek with our Boykin Spaniel, read books, and shot cans with the BB gun. It was a "DREAM" of a weekend, even though I didn't have any brunch or sip any beer (I am with OldHat on this one, no sipping for me)

I have a funny story I thought I’d share about my daughter Anna whom is now 4. It’s hunting oriented.

Last week was Anna’s first week of preschool. I had the privilege to take her to school on her first day, took a few pictures, exchanged hugs and kisses, then sent her off to the “big world”. It went without a hitch except for some transportation issues at the end of the day. She thoroughly enjoyed her first week of school.

Very recently our small village had a new business open. It’s a dancing studio just down the street from our house. We thought it would probably be a good fit for Anna so we took Anna to visit it at their open house event. She met the instructors, jumped around on the dance floor, and did a couple twirls/cartwheels on the dance floor. She enjoyed herself while playing with the instructors. Mommy and Daddy spoke business with the lead instructor regarding sign up details. We left with a handful of information to review and discuss with Anna. Anna was all set for sign up until she found out that this was a “drop off” and “pick up” event. Parents watching would be a distraction to the learning and instruction. She did not like the fact that she would be there without Mommy or Daddy. She vowed to join next year when she is 5. We accepted that answer.

This past weekend, Mommy went to the Susan Kolman Race for the Cure event in Cleveland. I had both kids Saturday morning so we watched some cartoons on Nick and then some deer hunting shows on the Sports Channel. Anna proceeded to ask me when she could go hunting. I told her, “Probably when your 5.” She did not offer any reply.

Saturday evening Mommy told Anna that this Sunday was the first day of Sunday School at Church. She was welcome to attend the Sunday school events during the church service. Mommy explained to Anna, “It’s like preschool except you talk about Jesus.” Anna replied, “No thank you Mommy, I’ll go when I’m 5.” We accepted that answer.

Shortly after Anna made her decision to decline Sunday school attendance the following morning, she came up to me and said, “Daddy, I want to go to Sunday school when I’m 5, but I want to go deer hunting when I’m 4.” I replied, “But Anna; you have to be very quiet in the woods, sit very still, and don’t move.” I then proceeded to say, “We’ll maybe, You could take some coloring books, sit quietly, and watch Daddy hunt deer for an hour or so one evening.” Anna quickly replied, “OK”.

I then proceeded outside to handle some outdoor task. When I came back in the house I noticed a plastic Walmart bag on the kitchen table. I took a peek inside the bag and found 3 coloring books and 3-4 magic markers. Anna quickly noticed my arrival back in the house and she said, “I’m all ready to go hunting Daddy.”

So, I guess the morale of this story is, “It’s time to go hunting.” :bouncy:

Fellas,
I'm all set now to head out now. Everything is packed and ready to pull out of the driveway. I do have a heavy heart though. My 9 year old niece, Melana, has a brain stem glioma (in operable brain cancer tumor) has now been referred to comfort & care home health services. She was all set to beginning hunting with me this fall. She adopted this monster disease in Jan 09. She had planned to hunt with me until 3 weeks ago when she could no longer pull the trigger of an xbow due to partial paralysis. She elected to hang out in a ground blind and watch her favorite Uncle after that. This past week she has now lost her ability to walk, has severe speech and vision issues, problems chewing food, and swallowing. It looks likes I'll be hunting with a very heavy heart this fall. I'll be shooting the first deer in her honor. Hopefully, the weather will be cool enough I can deliver it to her door step for a couple of "pets" and curb side photos. I can only hope my daughter has half the entusiasm as my niece about deer. Melana helped me follow a blood trail at age 3. I'll have a lot to think about this year sitting in my tree stand pondering life, death, resurrection, and heaven. I'm prayful God will be watching over every one of us, our families, and our friends this year. Be Safe, God Bless, and good luck this season. We have much to be thankful for.

I made it out Saturday morning, saw 2, and missed at doe at 51.5 yards nearby a field edge. I think I hit a twig. The evening proved a little more success. I saw 5 and took this doe from a ground blind overlooking a food plot. I'm heading over to show Melana my pictures and catch her up on my stories. My dad just called and she's continuing to have diminishing health issues. She's now losing her vision and needs some cheering up so Uncle Ben to the rescue.

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers fellas. I had a lump in my throat the whole visit. It was very difficult for me. Melana and I reviewed the deer pictures tonight that I shot in her honor. I couldn't understand her speech but I knew she was happy. She was very tired and the illness is taking her toll so I carried her up the stairs to her bedroom for bed which was the most humbling experience of my life. Tomorrow the priest is visiting and administering the annointing of the sick; Catholic religion. Perhaps Tuesday I will visit again as she has requested deer bolongia. I believe that God will be calling her home shortly so we as a family are relishing one day at a time. Weds we are having her 9 1/2 year old (un) birthday party. Once again thank you for your prayers for Melana.

Congrats on the doe, and more importantly, prayers to your niece. :(

As for my weekend, it was void of a kill but still good. I filmed for a friend Saturday morning, we saw 3, no shots. Saturday afternoon it was dumping rain so I stayed in. Didn't go out Sunday morning, but saw 16 deer (7 bucks) last night. Two of the buckls were good, one was a tweener 8-pointer with a great frame but shorter tines, the other was a shooter 10 that never came closer than about 65-70 yards. I passed on a few small bucks and had shots at does I passed because of the bigger buck being so close. I had planned to kill a doe, plans changed when i saw the bigger buck. It was great to just get out to the woods again and see some deer, probably won't get out again until the coming weekend, so best of luck to anyone who can make it out this week.

I made it out last night for my first trip of the season. It was a quick hunt but I luckily can walk from my house about 150 yards to the stand. I didn't care how much I had to pull together (because I wasn't totally ready) but I had a stressful day at work and wanted to get in my treestand. I got home, changed my clothes, pulled together the essentials and went to my tree. I slipped into my stand nice and quiet and the first thing I realized I forgot was my phone which i use to get the time of the day. I sat there for about 20 minutes and just as I was getting comfortable I started hearing the sounds of an engine in the distance, then it kept getting closer and heard some voices to go with it. Next thing I know it was within 20 yards of me and coming right down a trail that was one of my shooting lanes where deer travel. It turns out it was 2 kids, maybe 18 or so that looked like they were up to no good and at the very least were trespassing on my neighbors property that I hunt. I don't think they saw me and I let them pass without saying a word, they proceeded to go towards a golf course that is several hundred yards away and thats the last I heard of them. I was quite disappointed since they were on a loud golf cart and effectively travelled the outskirts of the wood edge. Needless to say I didn't see anything and climbed down at dark and went back to the house. IF I see them or hear them again I will be getting down probably and approaching them. These guys looked like riff raff and seeing how my camera was stolen( back in August) on the path they were riding on I'm thinking they were out scouting for fresh cameras. Well I got the first hunt under my belt. I'm hoping when I go this weekend it's a little more productive!!

I hunted Tuesday eve, and all day Wed. Seen 3 different deer and seen 2 of them again on different hunts. Could have whacked a doe but passed.

Was nice to spend the night in the camper, tromp some of the property for 4 hours in between hunts, and help a farmer dig 150lbs of yams!

What wasn't nice is that Tip and I officially had our 1st camera stolen from the property in 8 years. No stands as of now are missing, but my god we've got them everywhere, it's only a matter of time, hopefully investing in $100 worth of locks will save us $2K worth of stands.

Weather looks crappy for the next 5 days or so, I'll take the couch and football this weekend.

OldHat, That sucks man, when I got my first camera stolen this summer I was pissed off to say the least. I filed a police report, I knew it wouldn't make a difference but at least I did it. I definately lock all my stands to the trees but I really think if they want them they'll come prepared and take them anyhow. I hope you don't continue having problems.

I plan on hunting this weekend Saturday late morning into afternoon and then on Sunday. I would hunt tomorrow morning but I have a 5K road race to race.

Took out my youngest yesterday evening. Was the first time for him hunting (well he was with me, still too small to shoot something...he's 4) But anyway, we saw 3 does and I was gonna whack one if it came in close enough.....got busted!

I'm checking out the local butcher shop/processor down the road, if I like them then I'll be whacking a doe in the next week...I've got 200 acres to hunt within 5 minutes of my house and I've really never hunted it, figured I'd focus on it some this year and at least whack a few does if I get the chance.

Was south this weekend but had a gig to play in CHillicothe, got drunk enough not to make it up on Saturday morning to hunt, hang-over had me driving home Sunday afternoon so no hunting for me down south at the Farm.

Weather has been good, if it stays cool then I'm whacking a local doe!

I'll save the "bonus" youth hunt story/pic for later if we need them....I've also got 2 more kids that I will be taking out.

Ben:

Man there is a story behind me delivering him on the bathroom floor, you think you are kind of tuff' until you end up in that postion (literally). Momma woke me up as we had played golf at the Country Club and she was the designated driver (we stayed out late, maybe 12:30 or so drinking beers with friends (me). Well, she wakes me up and I'm still a bit "loopy" from drinking, tell her that she has to drive her self as I'd get a DUI. We load everything up in the SUV, call teh neighbor to come over and watch the other 2 that were sleeping. Neighbor has not made it yet so momma says "I got to go back in and pee before we go". Well, I hear bloody murder screaming coming from the bathroom, run up and she's on the floor.

I call 911 and they talk me through the delivery. The EMT's arrived as I was trying to deal with the umbilical (thought I was gonna have to chew through it..heheh). Well they say "do you want to cut the umbillical, you've got it this far"... I say "no, I've cut 2 before and all I want is a beer". So I go the garage, pop a beer and take a swig and I let the amatures do the clean-up work in the bathroom. It looked like I had just field dressed a deer, but I didn't care.

The 911 office out of Xenia Ohio sent us a card and told us to request the tape (audio) and they could send it to us. Hehhee, pretty funny stuff when you listen to it.

911 never helped deliver a kid over the phone. Once we got to the hospital all the nurses at Miami Valley Hospital said that this was the first time in 12 years or so that they had heard of one being delivered at home....I guess if it's gonna happen to someone then let it be me hunh?

I remember thinking "Now damn it if a caveman could do it then I can pull it off, at least I've got running water".

Cost $17K for a bathroom make-over (think of Helter skelter) and we still got charged for the delviery by the doctor!...go figure.

Forecast I heard for around here was dry Saturday and Sunday mid 50's for a high. I hope to be out there...be safe and I know you'll have a good weekend regardless...there's plenty of time for killing some deer...or is there

Lots going on here fellas, no excuses just facts...The wife has some extensive surgery on Oct 26...at least two nights in the hospital and another who knows how long recovery (we're hoping she's at least up and around in 10 days)... house sale should close sometime before the end of October, and I'll have to move by November 20...I will be hunting in Michigan on November 15th...That's just a few things :dizzy:

With that, I ( God willing) be hunting a solid four days from October 29 through November 1...primtime...got my bro and sis in law and possibly another buddy coming down from Michigan (damn non-residents  :D). My wife recuperates all weekend with her best friend and the boys go bowhunting! My bro killed a nice 9 point while hunting with me 2 years ago (he's now on a 10pt or better restriction this year) and my other buddy has taken a 4 and 6 his two years down (he's on an 7 point or better restriction this year). Of course they can use a doe tag anytime.

Saw nice a shooter 10pt my first time out and there's always more than one shooter around...the doe are plentiful. Should be some deer killing going on :bouncy:

I'm a man with a plan...;)

I'm looking forward to tomorrow afternoon's hunt, I have a good plan and I think it stands a very good chance of working. Last weekend, I hunted a stand, already hung by a friend, near a plot. As soon as I got in I was thinking "I hope nothing slips in from behind the plot because there's just no cover back there." Sure enough, which way do you think two groups of does decided to come in? Yep, right in the great wide open, and even with me 24' up the tree and standing tight to the tree, all of them picked me off. I started scanning for other setup possibilities, and realized there are some perfect places to put my ground blind. I'm going to slip in there early afternoon tomorrow and get it set up and brushed in. I think there's a high probability I'll get a shot from it. :mischeif:

Sunday I'm not sure about yet, but have some plans in the works. Sounds like it should be a good weekend! Best of luck to all Dream Team members, let's stick something good this weekend! :D

I love it when a plan comes together. I had a lot of optimism for my ground blind setup last night, and with good reason. Last weekend in the same area I hunted a stand a buddy hung and all deer came from a bad side, the exposed side, of the stand and I must have stuck out like a hooker in church. Lots of snorting and stomping, and no shots. This time I did a same day ground blind setup, went in around 3PM and got the blind set up and brushed in well. About 6PM I had a nice little 10 we've been seeing and 3 does inside 25 yards, finally got a clear shot at one of the small yearling does and couldn't resist. I center-punched her, quartering away, 18-20 yards...oh, and I self-filmed it all. :mischeif: The footage isn't spectacular, but you can see the shot (used a red Lumenok) and I got a few seconds of the buck before the plot emptied. Video and pics to come tomorrow, for today it's time to chase some antler. :D

Nice job Cream! I got out last night for the first time and let saw a couple of does and a small spike. At one point I had 2 does (one big mature doe), the spike and 3 gobblers in the food plot and did not have a good opportunity to take a shot, too many eyes, and didn't want to spook the deer. I had to come back this morning for the girl's softball games, so I didn't hunt today.

Congrates Cream. My father, friend, and myself made it to camp this weekend. We took deer Thurs pm, Fri pm, and a turkey Sat am. Sunday morning proved unproductive as open skies and moonlight made the deer sleep in Sun am. Yes, I took another Friday pm.

Congrats TheCream and BuckMaster!!! Sounds like you guys had a productive weekend.

I got out Sat morning and Sunday afternoon/evening and didn't see a deer. The bummer of my Sunday hunt was the stand I went to had I hadn't been to since 2 weeks before season opened. When I got into the stand the first thing I noticed was a stench and not even 25 yds away was a dead doe!? That thing smelled horrible. My question would be, would this keep deer out of that area or would they just ignore the smell? I know I didn't see any deer and that was somewhat surprising.

How many does that make for our team now, 3 doe?

Buckmaster
10-11-2009, 09:07 PM
Bill,
Deer typically would ignore the smell but the coyotes certainly would not. I would probably move it to another area and feed the critters.
Good luck with that stinky mess. I killed a deer over 3 two day old gut piles once.

What a beautiful weekend for hunting...I especially love morning hunts and was in the stand way before sunrise both mornings. The fall colors are in their glory to say the least and the deer are moving.
http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m239/deerhunt45/100_3111.jpg

I was hunting my creek stand and just after sunrise I heard a splash, kind of like a big bass hitting a surface lure sound. I eased around to my right and a mature doe was crossing the creek from the cornfield behind me and was right below my stand. I ease my bow into my hand and attached my release. She walked out just to my right and below the tree branch I left on the tree for cover, and stood giving me an almost straight away shot angle if I could thread an arrow through the branches. I decided to wait. She then proceeded to 180 around and was looking back across the creek. Again, not a good shot angle and I was thinking more deer coming so I wait. She proceeded to turn back around and walk straight away and I just couldn't get a good shot. What a way to start the morning!

About while later a basket rack buck tore past my stand from west to east! I'm thinking what the heck is he chasing or what is chasing him? A few minutes later this guy comes up the field/creek edge.
http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m239/deerhunt45/100_3110.jpg

He stopped out in front of me for quite awhile and numerous pictures before moving on out of sight. A few minutes later I hear another splash in the creek to the east of me. A couple minutes later, here he is again just behind and below me strolling down the creek bed.
http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m239/deerhunt45/100_3113.jpg

Sunday morning was exciting as well. I thought a smorgesboard of deer were going to give me a choice of shots when they were crossing the field, eight of them total. But they hung up to the east of me and never came my way. Possibly because after they had gotten out of sight near the creek, I saw this buck, a 2.5 yr 8pt standing at the brush edge. Zoomed in trying to get a pic, couldn't get a real good view but you can see him. He definitely needs another year (or two).
http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m239/deerhunt45/100_3118.jpg
http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m239/deerhunt45/100_3120.jpg

While I was having my morning snack (stomach was grumbling) mama doe walked past without a sound with two fawns in tow. I was turned facing my tree munching on crackers and v-8 juice (thought this a good idea to hide my movements, I don't know :dizzy:) Anyways by the time I got corrected she was out of my shooting lane and I decided against killing a fawn. I was hoping to see the mature buck I had seen Saturday that had crossed the crp field heading to the creek and cornfield about 60 yards to the west of me. Thought he might get a little closer maybe on Sunday...ended up I didn't see him at all.

I saw a total of 4 different bucks this weekend, one of which is very impressive, but the only one that presented a shot was little forky. All in all a very fun weekend and I feel it only gets better from here on :D

Hey Ben,

I'm roaming a lot this year so give me a yell some weekend and I'll hook up with you at your place and put on a hunt.

Tip is still hunting Ky and has his eyes on a few deer in Ohio where he and I used to hunt on WNF, so I may be hunting "around" the state a lot and if I'm allowed to I'll cruise over and hunt with you sometime. I say Tip will maybe kill 2 good bucks this year, one in KY and one in Ohio. He took a voluntary lay-off from work so he's hunting for trophy's this year.

Since you and Big H both have property in Harrison county you boners should invite the team over. I can't get you guys on the private I hunt or I would. If any of you want to meet up on WNF with me and Tip for a weekend then let me know and it's as good as done, I've got some good spots on WNF to hunt and the area could handle a few of us....it's not for the faint of heart though, some of the hills will make you feel like yodeling when you finally make it to the top!

I've had the bead on an 1 1/2" spike (1 1/2 year old) the past two weeks, Now that would be 7 points (5 point antlerless and 2 points for antlers exceeding 1" in length) I should have saved the 5 point doe pics for later in case I can't help myself bag the spike for a 2 point advantage :D

Barring some unforeseen disaster/tragedy, I will have another 5 points for sure at some point this season. The question is will I get a buck down this year. I passed some solid deer last year and went buckless, so I am hoping for good buck karma this fall. :coolgleamA:

We should have called ourselves "Killers" cause there is no doubt you have an itchy trigger finger Ben. You could use those spikes as toothpicks after the feast if you were to take him.

I typically don't eat much deer meat. Mainly I whack a doe when one of the farmers wants one. I check in with them every other day or so and once the temps get cool enough to let one hang for a day or so then they typically give me the go-ahead to take a doe for them. The last 2 years once they gave me the go-ahead I've taken 3 does. One took all of about 30 minutes.

If someone wants a doe and I'm doing a morning hunt then I'll let all does pass until around 10:30 or 11:00...but if one is around when I'm getting ready to get off the stand then look out she's getting whacked!

I'm perticular about shooting a doe. If I'm hunting WNF, then she has to be facing in the right direction (towards the truck) and I'll shoot one around the liver so that she runs as far as she can towards the truck to save me on drag time. You shoot one facing the wrong direction on WNF and you could end up with a drag of a mile or so once she drops into the wrong hollow or over the wrong bank. I'm getting fat and lazy in my old age and I'd have a heart attack if I had to drag a deer more than 100 yards or so. I think over the last 10-15 bow kills I've not had to drag any of them over 50-80 yards.

I will warn you, I had my nose broke 2 times in about 30 minutes in France fighting this big guy (about your size Ben) and my buddy straightened it up for me both times, so I snore like a devil as the inside of my nose is all screwed up, cosmetically I used to be a top 5-percenter when it comes to looks, the nose still looks good but I only consider myself in the top 7% now. Both are 9 years old so accomodations are rather nice.
The climber really isn't necessary unless you want some flexibility if you find a better spot. We have 5 ground blinds setup and 11 permanent ladder stands.

Things to bring off the top of my head.

Jug of water.
Sleeping bag & pillow.

I will say that all the ladies were checking me out and throwing panty's onto the stage while the rest was watching the game. So Big H, make sure you wash your thong real well before showing up and hearing me play!

Evening hunt was a wash. Nothing even close to my stand until dark thirty when I wanted to get down. Two doe walked down the middle of the creek and milled around below me. They eventually moved out of the creek and out in front of me but I could barely see their shapes and my pin was dark...no shot. I had to bark at them to run them off so I could get down and go home :D

It would be cool to meet up with you all. Ben, pm or email me the directions. I'm still up in the air, I'll see what I can work out. Couldn't make it over until Friday evening sometime at the earliest. Could hunt Saturday and maybe Sunday morning.

Guys,
Seems to me like someone wants to join "The Dream Team"
Could we use a mascot? :16suspect1:

Being opportunists  since Buckster wasn't a random selected drafted member of our team initially perhaps we may consider inviting him to our Dream Team meeting. Like a temporary agency; we could try him before we buy him. :coolgleamA: I think he could begin to earn his stripes as a free agent and be a decent asset for us gutting out our deer and dragging them back up the hill back to camp while we're telling our fireside stories , knocking back a couple of Bill's homebrews, and eating dinner. Your thoughts fellow Dream Team members?

I just made it back from the grocery store. I'll post or email my menu later tonight. You guys can supplement the small stuff if you'd like. The main items and all else should be taken care of.

Things to bring:
Box of Granola Bars to snacks and/or grab and go bfast.
Jug of Water (I'm packing 10 gallons)
Ice in cooler if successful.
BYOB
Hand Radio so I can find you if you get lost.
Pillow & Sleeping bag (we have 9 beds)
Ear plugs so you can't hear Jesse

For all of those who are interested:

I'll be arriving around 1:00-2:00 on Friday afternoon. Again, it will according to when I sleep off a hang-over since I have a gig on Thursday night and will be staying in my camper, so I may be outta there at 8:00 or may be outta there at 12:00. My goal is to get to Buckmasters place before it is time to hunt.

Oh and I will bring trout. I think I only have 5 or 6 left. They are best rolled up in foil and thrown on the grill. I typically add butter, garlic, stuff them with vegetables and let them cook for 20 minutes or so.

I will take the opportunity to "whack" the 1st doe that comes along. It's not often that I go on a killing spree while hunting, but I'll make sure we have some deer meet. If Buckmaster says it's OK, then I'll keep on whacking does until I am out of doe tags or I've reached my limit.

About me snoring:

I've lived in the 4runeer before for days at a time while hunting so I may end up sleeping in there, I do snore like a sombeetch though. Plus I don't knwo you yahoo's from Adam, so at least in the 4 runner I can lock my doors and be to myself:mischeif:

Ah Charlie, get off work, roll in around 9:00 in the evening on Friday, I'll still be singing or telling lies (probably will actually be getting done washing the blood off my hands from the days kill), you can take over from there and serenade BigH to sleep by midnight, tuck him in, then you can drink a beer.

If you are just being a cheap BONER then I'll put your gas on my company debit card and expense it out as a business meeting (I'll be doing that anyway, won't be as good as Vegas or other destinations...).
Hell I'll even be expensing out the Trout I'll be provding, I'll bring Post-it notes and you Boners can write me out receipts. Hell, it will be like I'm giving a freakin' hunting seminar anyway, so I might as well expense it out.:mischeif:

I'm still in no matter what all the other boners say. Buckmaster I'm there for you brother!

Ben,

I know it's a pain in the azz for you planning/getting ready for the camp, so do not hesitate in letting me know what to bring. I mean I can stop by Krogers or a Wally World and pick up all kinds of stuff on my way to your place, so don't fret/string yourself out in trying to get everything ready. I can bring whatever man, if it costs a couple hundred bucks for supplies then I can get it. I don't want you to be out that money, let me get some stuff since you are the host.

So shoot away, what else could I bring to make this as enjoyable as possible? What is your camps "beer of choice"?

You got a good electric coffee maker...I know you don't have running water but I do remember you saying you have electric. I need cooffee to survive, so should I bring a coffee maker, I've got a perculator coffee pot and I've got an extra electric one.

Friday 40 degree high, Low 36 at night (chance of rain)
Saturday- 40 degree/36 low (Mixed rain and snow)
Sunday- 47 High, 37 low.

Damn I've been at this game for 27 seasons, this has got to be the coolest temps I've ever seen from the start of bow season leading us into the rut.

Good hunting weather, something tells me that we'll be getting those "North-ish" winds for a while. Looks lik ewe ain't even gonna see the temps break out of the 50 degree mark all next week. By next weekend it shoudl be "hot and heavy".

Good night John Boy!

Got it all covered Oldhat. I'm ready to roll after work tonight around. Yes we have electric and two coffee pots. Just bring your trout and your trout fixings. Our beer of choice is anything that has suds and is cold. Usually it Natural Light or Busch Lite. It's BYOB so I already have my beer staple secured. Bill's bringing samples of his homebrew too.

For your additional comfort items, bring your teddy bear and your rain coat. That should do it.

With this cold weather snap the deer should be up and moving.

Fellas, I was supremely disappointed last night! I pulled off a few things I didn't expect, like:

-bargained a day off
-had what I thought was perfect weather conditions
-located a white oak dropping nuts
-perfect wind

I thought "Man, this is like the perfect storm, this is going to be a great night." I was hunting a high bench on a big hardwood ridge that has produced well for me in the past whenever there are acorns. This was my first hunt in the area this year, and this general area has given me two archery bucks and several archery doe kills over the last 3 seasons. The gamble was wondering if there would be any nuts, and to my surprise, there were some. A large white oak had a few nuts under it, and while in the stand a squirrel working the top of the tree was dropping some. Here are a few pics from the stand.

The giant oak is on the right:

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i58/creamernator/IMGP0740.jpg

I was hunting where there is a slight saddle, the ridge comes down nearly all the way to my bench:

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i58/creamernator/IMGP0739.jpg

More young white oaks, didn't hear anything falling from them:

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i58/creamernator/IMGP0738.jpg

Everything seemed too perfect...right wind, cool weather, food, combination of two solid travel routes (bench and saddle), and I made zero noise getting in. It all added up to seeing ZERO DEER from the stand! This was my first skunked trip of the season, and I really wasn't expecting that! :nono:

Oh well, it was still a fun night to be in the woods, and a day out there is better than a day at work, no matter how the hunt goes! :D

Well the "real men" of The Dream Team have all returned home. A couple of deer were killed at camp, had a good time!

There will be plenty of pictures to share shortly as Big H, Buckmaster, and myself took pics. Big H and BUckmaster have the good pics, I just have them of the moonshine being passed around a few of around camp, those boys have some pics and we all have a few good stories.

TritonBill made it over on 2 occasions and got to partake in some of the Rainbow trout I brought with me to cook up (damn was it good), He bought us some home brew beer and it was good also. Buckster stopped by and a good time was seen by all.

I had a 110-115" 8 pt at 15 yards and a 7 point (would have been an 8pt but broke off a brow tine) at 20 yards.

Ben is a "killer" and whacked another doe. Another deer was also taken and I'll let Ben chime in on it with picks......I'll just say that I have gone to the "darkside" of hunting in more ways then 1 and it's gonna get good so stay tuned for Ben to pass around the picks.

I will say that there is only 1 true man on this team and that would be me, I proved my manlyhood by taking a shower around 10:00 saturday morning. And that was a 50 gallon barrel that Ben had on a frame outside with a stall around it. Nothing like taking a freezing cold shower standing outside with 40 degree temps and 35 degree water......I screamed like a banshee for about 5 minutes but boy was it refreshing!

Stories to come.

Hey guys, definately had a great time, nice to put some faces to the names. Thanks Ben for opening up your place to us and helping make this possible. Even though I didn't hunt with you guys I enjoyed driving over Friday night and Saturday after my morning hunt to visit. I'm glad you guys enjoyed the homebrew I made and the Deer jerky! Jesse, that trout was excellent, I wish I'd came with an empty stomach. I hope i can meet up with you all again another time.

Saturday's hunt started out slow. I didn't see a deer until 9:45 am and then the action was real good for a while up through 11:15. At 9:45 I heard some noise to my right about 100 yds away and I looked and I saw a group of about 10 turkey coming my way. I started watching them closely and was thinking bout Thanksgiving when all the sudden I see brown behind them. There were 5 deer (2 bucks, 1 adult doe, 2 smaller doe) travelling together and they sorta pushed past the turkey and came right down through the same path I walked to get to my stand. When the deer got right to me, one stopped for a brief second and looked up at me and then just kept on going at a leisurely pace. This all happened pretty fast and I didn't get any shots for fear of being busted. There was only 1 doe I was interested in and that would have caused quite the mess had I shot it and freaked out the others! They slipped away out of sight and maybe 20 minutes later 4 of them came back and ran through the field I was over looking. The 5th came back under my stand and made a big circle and then came back under my stand again, to bad it was one of the smaller doe.

Saturday night I went to a Brew Up a Cure 2009, beer home brewers festival, a benefit for Cystic Fibrosis. I drank a lot of beer and I'd have to say my favorite was an Autumn Wheat beer. Before the brewfest, we ate at a place in Monroeville, PA called Rivertown Pour House that had 19 freshly made brews on tap and a great dinner. I had the Stuffed Sirloin steak, mmm mmm good.

Sunday morning came pretty quick and I really didn't want to get up but I DID and it was nice crisp, frost laden kinda morning. I made it to my stand which was about a 200 yard walk and didn't spook anything going in, a bonus! At around 8:15 I had a lone 8 point buck with about a 13" spread walking towards me. He ended up walking directly to me down the path and under my stand before he walked off into the thick stuff. About 1 hour later from the same direction I watched 2 doe appear and they took a different path, up through some thick stuff and kind of around my area and down a powerline so no shots there. Maybe 35 minutes after that I heard somethng down to my right on the powerline, sounded kind of aggressive and snort like and I was pretty sure it was a buck. 10 minutes go by and out of that area comes 2 does and then yup, confirmed it was a 6-8 point chasing them. I was kind of surprised to see this. Too far away for a shot but the buck wasn't that big anyhow. I waited another 30 minutes and decided to get out my stand and go eat some lunch and spend some time with the family for a couple hours before I drove back home in NE Ohio.

So the wrap up is, I met some really cool guys from the website and our team, saw 5-6 deer each of my morning hunts and had lots of laughs with friend and family. Great weekend I must say!

Saturday proved the first success of the weekend as Big H finally convinced Oldhat to give the Scent Smoker a trial use. After some major convincing.... Oldhat decided to try it. He was hopeful that Brock would sponsor him and that he could become a Scent Smoker pimp. :shhh:

We ate very well as always. Saturday's lunch was stuffed trout cooked in foil packs on the BBQ grill.

Damn that trout was good.

I heard someone coming through the cabin as we were out on the porch drinking, had never met BigH, so he's walking through the cabin, pops open the door and the first thing I say is "Damn you are a Big MOFO".....funny thing is I kicked his azz out of the good bed in the camper and made him sleep on the floor Friday night.

Man, I'm getting fat! Bet I've put on 20lbs in 2 years....guess that has something to do with all the beer I drink......and lord knows I didn't slow down over the last few days with you yahoo's.....instead of a deer camp it should have been a "beer camp".

Saturday proved a little more success as Oldhat changed his hunting mindset with the use of Scent Smoker. He said, "The Indians used smoke for cover scent, so he was doing things Indian style." Oldhat proved right as he stalked this doe dead downwind with his Bear recurve, cedars, and Bod Kin 3 blade points. He shot this big mama in one of the food plots at 6 yards with the breeze on his back.

The Dream Team congrated Oldhat and posed for a quick photo.

Buckster and his two boys stopped by to visit Saturday afternoon. They brought some cookies to try to butter us up and allow him on our team. The cookies were great however we had to provide Buckster our regrets. His resume did not quite meet the high standards we empose to join The Dream Team. We told Buckster to go shoot a big one and come back to talk to us again next year. :coolgleamA:

The meeting had adjurned at about 2 am Sunday morning as Oldhat played his guitar just about all night long. He finished up by tucking us into bed and he sang  us a couple lullabies :gaga: until we fell fast asleep.

You got me there. I committed to the smoke machine, but I had to take that cold shower first with no-scent soap. Told the boys the only way I'd be convinced was if I could shoot one with trad equipment "dead down wind"......so Big H smoked me up, I grabbed Scott's trad stuff, took one shot, the team decided that if I could whack a target at 20 yards consistently (in 2" groups) after 10 shots then I was ready. We held a huddle as I was getting tired of shooting, the huddle broke and it was decided by the group that I could shoot better then Coonskinner and I would be allowed to use trad gear (not bad after 10 shots, the last time I shot a recurve or a longbow was 27 years ago).

BIg H lathered me down with smoke, they had one big "human size garbage bag" and I put it over me like a tent, Big H stuck the scent smoker in there with me and after catching a good buzz for about 3-5 minutes I was off.

......continued after a bit......Stay tuned!

Oldhat hurt my feelings when he commented about not all of the arrows in my quiver matching, then he laughed at me since I was wearing two different camo patterns. :nono:

If you notice, he was dressed to the gills with all new stuff, I am thinking he may have stopped at Cabelas on the way to get decked out and make a good impression. Luckily they had his favorite camo in extra short sizes.

Buckmaster, your camp is great, and I wanted to thank you for having us over. Good thing I was around for the track job, Oldhat was still sleeping and didn't want to help......

So now I am ready to hunt....all smoked up, got my trad gear, now all I need is a deer.

Buckmaster was to throw me on the back of the 4wheeler and cruise the spots looking for a doe directly after the smoking up, but #2 called so I had to go to the outhouse.

On debating whether the smell of an outhouse would render the smoke smell useless it was decided to go ahead and smoke all up again since I did wipe with the scented toilet paper that Ben had in the outhouse. So off we go again to smoke me up.

We finally get on the 4wheeler and off we go (man that smoking up is anal, I guess we spent a good 30 minutes total).

Ben has 19 stands on his property of which each stand has a foot plot and a barrel of corn.....we were looking for a deer in either scenario for me to shoot.

So anyway, BigH likes to take his smoker with him on the treestand, he says it hides his scent/keeps the smoke smell going + gives him cover from a deers vision. He claims that if a deer does get curious and starts looking for where the smell of smoke is coming from then he just hits the bellows a few times and hides behind the puffs of smoke then the deer can't see him and go back to normal...I was going to give it a try.

...continued as I've got to go get a beer..be right back

I did forget to mention this, here are my "1st times" at hunting that occured at Ben's camp that were new to me:

1.) I had never hunted over a corn pile.
2.) I had never hunted a food plot
3.) I had never hunted out of a ladder stand
4.) I had never hunted out of a "tent style" ground blind
5.) I had never hunted out of an elevated blind
6.) I had never used a 4 wheeler to get me to a hunting spot
7.) I had never shot a deer with trad stuff
8.) I had never used a scent-smoker
9.) I had never used an outhouse
10.)I had never realized that for being a big guy that someone like BigH could be such a fragile little twinky boy.

OLDHAT

So we are on the 4 wheeler checking out bait piles and food plots. We hit a few but no deer. Finally we get to the 13th plot and momma and 5 does are out there feeding.

Buckmaster and I discussed where down wind would be and figured to try the experiment that we needed to be down wind and since there was no way for me to put a stalk on and get those deer down wind so we needed to find another spot.

I was getting a bit worried as it took us to the 17th plot until we found the right scenario....big momma was alone and munchin on Turnip tops.

I not only had to stalk her with her being dead down wind, I had to go the length of the food plot (maybe 100 yards by 40ft wide plot in the middle of the woods) because she was in the back corner of the plot.

I jump off the 4 wheeler while Ben was slowly rolling not to alarm her, we debated this as Ben said she'd spook if he stopped to let me off, and I figured that if he would just stop then the deer would never see me or smell me...I mean hell I had on camo and was smoked up what could go wrong?

For those "tuning in", if you think Oldhat can talk, you should see him drink, :yikes: He thinks he is bigger after a few beers also, so I had to straighten him up a little before we went to our sleeping quarters. Buckmaster might be able to buy a new crossbow with the beer cans from this weekend. LOL

OLDHAT

So, I get right at the edge of the plot and woods, take off on a pretty good walk then hit the dirt.....momma is getting curious. I don't know if she smelled me or seen me, can't decide which one since I had on camo and was invisible or if this smoke got her alarmed....then the military training kicked in, I started low-crawling, had 30 yards to go to get to within 20 yards, it's just me and the deer and the wind baby, both of us in the plot, her eating and me sneaking.

So I get to about 20 yards and wait for her to turn her head so that I could get up on one knee to shoot. I figure she was 20 yards. The doe turns her head and up on one knee I go.....Momma picks me up and the "game is over" I freeze with the arrow on the rest and figure I'm done.

Momma never spooks and to my amazement she lowers her head and starts feeding. I look down to make sure I get the finger tab properly on the bow and notice that I pulled a flu-flu arrow out with a game tip verses a broadhead.....gotta change arrows. Finally after 5 mimutes or so and her turning her head multiple times I get to change the arrow.......

to be continued..............................

LOL...for the record basically 4 of us drank 132 beers in 2 nights, plus the beer that Bill brought, plus that bottle of moonshine!

Beer...hehehe, you should have witnessed our boy Buckmaster last night....man, the guy was shitola faced......he's just like Kirk when he gets drunk. I guess the two of them will catch on that after drinking 15 beers you should only take one shot of moonshine verses 5!

heading to bed, will finish the story tomorrow!

I'm glad some folks had a good weekend of hunting. I woke up sick to my stomach in a BAD way Saturday morning and cancelled the morning hunt. I would have been doing #2 off the stand every 20 minutes had I gone out. Saturday evening was a bust, only saw 1 doe. Yesterday afternoon I went to a good location that has produced well for me in the past and my hunt was disrupted by a pair of road rifle hunters on a 4-wheeler...and yes, with my help they were identified. Always carry a video camera or camera of some kind, fellas, you never know when a poacher will be dumb enough to drive right by you while you're packing your gear in your truck. :nono:

Wait...wait... you guys call that beer you were drinking beer, pfft.. I'm sure glad I brought some real homebrew for you to try. I usually pee the color of the beer you guys were drinking. :mischeif:

Man I wish I could have stayed to hear OldHat play, nothing I enjoy more than an acoustic guitar performance!

The funny part for me is I grew up about 25 minutes from Buckmaster's camp and I had to use a GPS to get me there! Friday night I plugged in the address to my GPS and I'm telling you right now if it hadn't been for Ben at the end of his driveway waving me in with his flashlight at 9PM I never would have found deer camp!! So....I thought well I had fun Friday night and go back Saturday, guess what, I took a wrong turn and ended up going in from the opposite direction and had a harder time in the daylight then I did at night!! BuckMaster has a beautiful place and a great area to hunt. Those deer have to be in good shape with all the steep terrain, reminded me of WV mountains!

BTW, Buckster has a great family, I commend him for getting his kids involved with hunting and showing them what the outdoors has to offer.

I guess Ben thought I was bsing' at first about playing in a band and that I'd been playing the guitar since I was 14. It only took 2-3 songs for Ben to get all "weirded out" on me about how he thought me playing that thing and singing was the greatest thing since sliced bread. The Big guy doesn't know a lot of tunes, but he hummed the melodies, passed the shine and slurred a lot of the lyrics he did know, the other guy "Kirk" that was there was howling like a yote most of the time. Even got Scott to sing, so you would of been howling with them Bill if you would have been there!

I guess we done Bluegrass, some of my originals, CCR, Old Crowe Medicine Show, Alabama, Jim Croce, John Prine, ZZ Top, Zep, The Band, Neil Young, and a bunch others.

The Cabin was a rockin' and the beer and shine were flowing.

A good time was had. There were 2 other guys there also, Kirk and Scott. Those 2 are Ben's buddies. At the end of the day, I just call them all "killers" as they will whack a doe at 1st chance. I think from Friday until Sunday that Ben only hunted maybe 20 minutes. He whacked a doe in about 20 minutes then hung out around camp the rest of the time.

I knew they were killers once I got into the tent style ground blind. Ben had told me that when I got there to shoot through the mesh.....popped in the blind and I guess there had to be 50 broadhead holes through the mesh outta 1 blind and most of them were going in the direction of the corn pile.

Talked to my boy about going out with me for a hunt this weekend, told him we'd be going out for about 3 hours in the ground blind. He hasn't went with me since he was about 7 so I'm hoping this will rekindle the interest some. I'm not sure whether this will happen this Sunday or halloween weekend but hopefully I get him out there!

Oldhat, My father believes I could locate deer in a mud puddle and kill it.
My first 2009 hunt was 2 hours, my second was 20 minutes, and my third was 10 minutes. The rust is falling off from the offseason absence... or like a fine wine I'm improving with age. I told Big H the deer just follow me around the woods. He thought I was joking

I forgot to mention to you guys that one of my main sponsors is Come Here Deer.

It's been nice providing you 3 years of smack talk, having you enter "my world", and showing you "the real deal". I'm thankful you were watchful, ambitious, and attentive. I hope you learned something young :gaga: Oldhat.

Pass it on to your children. :D

You need to hit them a bit better, if it would not have been for Big H walking up that mountain side and finding your deer you'd still be looking!

Ron I can't believe that deer made it that far up on that hill once BigBen arrowed it...maybe we should get him some shooting lessons as a token of our appreciation of letting us into "his world".

He showed me yesterday where you found it. Damn, that was straight up and down.....I'm glad I slept in because my fat azz wouldn't have walked up there!

I have found a few that were given up on. I told you guys about the buck my dad shot and I had to put it in a headlock so my dad could finish it off with a knife. LOL

The nice thing about it was that once we pulled it out of that log pile, all Ben had to do was let her roll down the hill to the creek. Tenderized her on the way down. LOL

Charlie,

I done Copper Head Rd for the boys....that is when the shine was flowing so I figured it was appropriate. I also done "Dead Flowers" by Stones, Forgot to do "Don' think Twice It's Alright" by Dylan. I even threw in "Mustang Sally" and "Pancho & Lefty" and "Easy" by Lionel Richie.

Ben requested some Boy George and Culture Club. Ben didn't know much lyrics on my stuff, so I figured out the chord progression to "Carma Camelion" and he pulled it off with the lyrics. He then requested some George Michael and immediately after he sung "I want your Sex" and dancing around the living room, thought he was gonna rip his shirt off:coco:

Big H then stepped in and requested some Elton John. That's when I figured it was time to stop playing for the night and call it quits!

It was pretty gay if you ask me!
