View Full Version : The future of trophy hunting...
...could be dominated by women!
Each year, the Buckeye Big Buck Club gives out special awards for oldest / youngest inductee, top 3 by weapons category, top female hunter etc... at the annual banquet.
This year, 11 year old Alexis Kemp was our female hunter, Jr hunter, top typical, top 3 by weapon (crossbow) and founders award winner. Like Dimaggio's hit streak, this will probably never be duplicated.

And our young hunter award was a tie between two 9 year old girls, Desriel Brewer and Kelsey Friend.

Desriel was one of a handful of hunters who entered the record book with a handgun last season.

That is neat to see. Those little girls sure look cute and happy! Bet they had a great time and its good to see parents getting children involved in the sport, boys or girls. :D

The youth and the ladies, that is an area of growth in the hunter ranks.
Youth Hunters are vital in the future of hunting, Bowhunting and the shooting sports, glad to see them involved.

Now that is going to be a tough one to beat! It's always nice to see kids getting into the outdoors and being successful, especially young girls. That's just not something you see every day. Hopefully the trend continues and someday I'll have a daughter-in-law to join the OBRO deer camp.

Alexis Kemp goes to school with my daughter and plays softball and volleyball with her as well. Her deer will be featured in NAW mag. this Dec. issue her father told me, and has already been featured in RACK mag. that is affiliated with Buckmasters I think. Her buck grossed near 194 and netted near 178 if my memory services me correct. It is truly a deer of a lifetime and I joke with her at some practices calling her BIG BUCK SLAYER and telling her shes showing up her dad and I. She and her father do all sorts of hunting together as well as fishing. For our sport to continue on as we hope it does, we fathers, uncles and grandpas must step up to the plate as her father Dennis has done, so we don't let the anti's gain any more ground than they've already have. Our youngun's might even kill a buck of a lifetime in the process.;)

This is fantastic!
Hopefully times are changing. Most of the time when someone finds out my daughter shoots/hunts the reaction is surprise or shock. She's is a little careful about talking about sometimes because she often gets negative reactions.:(
