Is it too late to wade for walleye at Huron?
Thanks,

I have never seen anyone wade at Huron. They do fish off the piers in the fall and early winter and do really well especially after dark. I have not been up yet this year. It is not too later for walleye that is for sure. You can catch them at night from the pier right up until ice up.

The night bite never really materialised this year. At least not like previous years. More miss than hit. The Cleveland lakefront was pretty much a bust, same with Gold Coast. Huron has'nt been as productive as in previous years. Some say there is to much forage. Maybe, but I've caught them in the past when the elec. would puree the shad they were so thick. Who knows?

Yep, the reports that I heard were the same. The bite at Huron this past fall was almost non-existant? Who knows why? I won't say that it could possibly have something to do with unprotected year classes because that's not a popular opinion around here.

.. To me it kinda seemed that in "2004" the meat fishermen, weekenders, charters and anything that would float showed up in no#s in the 27/27 area .. it had never seen that kind of pressure in no#s before ~ it probably put the Eyes n' S-Bass down or drove them off, along with the greatly increased catch reducin' the the odds for the late-comers;)
~ just a old farts thoughts:)
PS .. even with the recent great hatch holdin' the promise of no#s for Erie again ~ if a lil' selective harvest issue isn't pushed by folks, then the days of a great 27/27 Trophy Eye Slam are numbered.
> heheh -- another quick thought that the tourney guys/friends will probably Kill me for postin' ~ How about a "One Pig Slot" for S-Bass & W-Eyes put into to the daily bag limit (size to be determined by the ODNR Bio-Guys)?? ... it'd be nice to see a few of those Gals grow another year that evade the Dreaded Nets n' Mother Nature ~ as in Hang a Hog - Not a Smelt!!!;)

LOL! I wouldn't really care if they imposed a "one pig slot" because I can't even catch a pig! Seriously, I release most of the biguns I catch (except to take to the scales in a tourney). I'd rather eat the tounge of my boot than a 10 lb walleye. (I know, I'm not fixing them properly).
Not to stir the pot any but...
I haven't attended a PWT weigh-in a PC yet, but they must look like the weigh line at the WC get-together at Huron. I've never seen that many big fish in one spot in my life! 4 fish @ 46+/- lb won it-unreal. IMO (in my opinion) there's alot of bigguns that never even see a lure, let alone get hooked or landed. There's an solid population of 'eyes that seems to be stabilized in numbers with a really good (maybe record) year class coming up from last year (look out in 2018 to 2020 for a new state record-lol). Of course they thought they would never kill all the bison, either!;)
Another JMO-"the dreaded nets" catch way more pigs than hook n' line guys. If it's really in danger, let's get rid of the nets!

hi,
They fish off boat docks and wade off some of the beaches at Huron.
