JBrown and I we're discussing our differences of opinion on a certain deer that my hunting buddies and I have on trail cam. We feel he is the same deer and he feels otherwise. He brings up a good point that the deers right beam doesn't turn down and the left side lacks the flier point on the G-2. This deer was seen in this same area last year and is back to his home range this year as well. He has awesome mass but we still feel this is the same deer but things just got rearranged so to speak. Does anyone else have pic's of before and after deer with things being totally absent or pointed up instead of down, or even from one side to the other. I bet Mrex and JD have got some. If anybody has some please share. This could be an interesting threadhttp://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu12/FinelyShedded/FWMA22915690-0001-1.jpghttp://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu12/FinelyShedded/MultimedMA22451314-0002-1.jpghttp://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu12/FinelyShedded/FWMA22915692-0002-1.jpghttp://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu12/FinelyShedded/MultimedMA22451311-0001-1.jpgWhat do you guys think?

My opinion is that they are most likely different deer. I would be surprised if you told me they were the same.

Different deer in my opinion...
You talking about trail cam pics alive and then dead/harvest pics that are different? Or just comparisons to see how they look on a trail cam pic compared to dead/harvest pic? I have some exampls of alive deer and dead deer, but the racks did not change much, so that might not be as helpful...

I don't think either one of these deer are the ones who shed these horns... Good deer none the less. But not the same.

Brow tines different lengths in sheds, same in the pics. Although things can change drastically from year to year, the one thing I don't see changing is the amount of mass. The sheds from last year have great mass, and this years pics don't appear to have mass anything like that. I say different deer.

Those pics are not the same deer. The sheds could possibly be a deer headed down hill but I don't think so. By the looks of it I'd say he would be bigger this year.
This is a set of sheds from a buck in 06 http://www.ohiosportsman.com/photopost/data/500/medium/Deer_011.jpghttp://www.ohiosportsman.com/photopost/data/500/medium/MDGC0191.JPGThis was him in 07. He went down hill by about 15 inches. He grossed a little over 205 then in 07 192. I spotted this buck in the spring of 07 shed hunting in april. He was still carrying both sides. I have no idea how his left side turned down at the end but the next year it was fine. This is just an example of how racks can change so much in a year. I do have one more example to show but can not do it at this time. We'll have to wait a few more weeks or months.

Finely shedded,i think they are not the same deer, but thats a plus, that means you have two bucks to look forward to,a buddy and i collected sheds from a buck for three years and there was not a drastic change.the bent brow tine makes me think not the same deer.I think the easiest way to tell is always look at brow tines they dont change as much as a g tine would in my opinion.

Finelyshedded... I think the verdict is in my favor so far;). Just messing with you man. JD shows a great example of how much antlers can change year to year. His buck has a lot of change, but the overall "character" of the rack is pretty similar between the two years. The buck you are showing just doesn't appear to have any resemblance to the sheds at all, IMO. Not saying it's not possible though. But really it works out much better for you if it's a different buck... more bruisers running around the woods.

It looks to me that just past the G4 on the bucks down turned horn there appears to be a knuckle like formation. Which makes it appear to me that the buck injured that antler in the growing process having it turned down. Which if you turn it back up it would match the next years photo with crab claw and all. What do you think?

JBrown, I've been wrong before(just ask my wifey)LOL, and you are right, if it is a different deer then we'll have one more stud to hunt:bouncy:. Thanks for all your input, there is an over-welming support in JBrowns opinion and ya'll might be right so don't let my wife know then she'll have MORE ammo.;)

I agree with Whitetail Joe on JD's buck possibly having damage to his beam while growing. A friend of mine raises deer. He had a buck a few years ago somehow got a really deep cut into its beam just as it was starting to grow. It actually looked like it was going to break off. Well it kept growing but ended up growing a double beam on that side that year.
