While I'd love to hunt hogs, there's a reason there's an open season everywhere and farmers will ask you to shoot everyone you can. They don't want them! Stocking hogs would be a horrible mistake, especially in Ohio with all the agriculture we have. You don't have to go too far for a good hog hunt. I hear Tenn has a good population.

Hogs would actually screw up the area very quickly.

Deer don't normally hang around when they are present. They root up the forest floor and will quickly infest the area. Eventually farmers will have major issues because they will do two to three times the damage than deer to their crops.

One friend of mine in SC told me of a farmer who had a to plant a field four times because the dang hogs kept rooting it up and eating the seed.

I still say "Bring on the Fresh Bacon!!" Once they get bad have a open season on them like coyotes!...;)

You don't want hogs. And once you have them they are almost impossible to get rid of.

One guy from one of the other Ohio outdoor forums has a recent post of harvesting two wild hogs in Hocking Co. Ohio. Has pics as proof. Evidently they are a nuisance to their cornfields. I have a cousin that says they are in Vinton Co. as well.

My inlaws live outside of albany and laughed there yayas off at me when I asked the question. It is a myth. I have heard the storys too and question their authenticity. Hogs around central ohio??????? no way. Too many people.

Hogs are really destructive. I do not want them here, I have seen pictures of what hogs can do to a wood lot. No thanks, I like my woods experience a little better than that.

Last year about this time a guy posted a picture of a couple of hogs that he claimed were harvested in the hocking hills area. I am not sure of the forum but I question their authenticity.

If you think you have hogs in an area let me know I will bring my game camera to you for a couple of weeks to get pictures. I made the offer to a couple of guys who claimed they had wild pigs on their property.....they never took me up on it.

Basement,
Seeing is believing for myself as well. If wild hog did exist in Ohio I would love to have an opportunity to take one. Anyway, here is the link.

there are a few scattered hogs around . with all the small game preserves that offered hog hunting that there have been through out southern and s.e. ohio , some have bound to have gotten loose, plus small farm hogs that have gotten away and some that were purposely turned loose . 20 years ago , there were 4 young (100 lbs or so ) razor back hogs shot on the deer creek wildlife area by some groundhog hunters. it was later found out someone had released them . i've heard rumors of other releases on coal mine lands . although there fun to hunt , and tasty , we don't need them in ohio . there very destructive to a forrest's under story , not to mention what they can do to a crop field . they will eat anything . they call them piney woods rooters in louisiana where i've hunted . mark

Hogs are escapies, once tame. The ones in hocking county prolly came from the no kill no pay operation that was there before they got run into west virginia with their tail between their legs. There used to be hogs that escaped from under someones house in athens county in the mid 60s.I knew and went to school with 2 of the boys and played on the football team with them.Them hogs flourished for many years turning wild and ugly.Every once in a while I hear of a deer gun hunter on a drive taking one from Athens,Hocking ,Vinton county, but not as often as in the 60s 70s 80s.

This pass winter 3 wild boar were shot in Trumbull Co. in champion township. Tribune news paper had the story in it. the land owner seen a couple more. They figured someone turn them lose. These were real wild boar not tame hogs.

Whats up everyone! I am going to Vinton county the weekend of Nov 21. I was wondering if anyone can tell me some good places to start hunting for boar. We were told that Zalenski park was a good place to start. Any info would be awsome and appreciated.

Even though Vinton county has some roaming groups of pigs.. You could drive to Tennessee or Georgia, Shoot a hog, and drive back to Ohio 20 times before you'll ever see one in vinton county... They will be here one day, 5 miles away the next. They don't have a home turf.. I know a guy that drives for UPS in vinton and found a lady whos yard was destroyed. He got permission to hunt and found other sign of hogs.. He hunted almost everyday for 2 weeks and never saw one on the property again.. 2 weeks later he found another lady 15 miles away with the same problem in her yard.. He got permission to hunt them and killed 1 a week later... 5 weeks of going out there everyday and he killed one.. He built a giant pen trap like they do in texas and put a trailcam on it... It was 2 months before the band of roaming hogs came back through.. And they only stayed a day...

I knwo guys that have gotten trailcam pics years ago and have never seen the since...

I have hunted vinton for about 5 years, Deer, turkey, and squirrel.. We have had hogs come through our 1000 acres once or twice.. But i nor anyone else on the property have ever seen one..

Trust me, it's a waste of time.. Even though vinton may be close to home, you would be better off driving to TN, you'll probably save time and gas by doing that.

I have hunted this one hollow on our lease for 5 years, Deer and turkey and I average over 60 days on this place just during deer season alone. over 500 hours a year in the woods at this place.. Last turk season I found the tracks in the pictures below.. But i have never seen a hog. Obviously a hog track.. But as much as I've hunted in this area it's not even worth my time to try and kill one.. You probably have a better chance of killing a B&C buck than a hog.

I live close to "Patriot" mentioned in the post, there have been several hogs killed there over the last 2 or 3 years, a small one was killed about a mile from me 2 years ago.

A friend of mine had a hog on his property this fall down in Scioto County. The hog rolled in an old mineral lick that was holding water then rubbed the trees with next to it. I don't think it has been back since.

You do not want hogs in ohio they will take over i have 87 arces in alabama and they are on my land my hay field is destroyed. They eat everything, they eat acorns, turkey eggs. The more they eat the less the deer and turkey have to eat and they will root up fields and cost farmers alot of money kill everyone you see. A mature sow can have 3 litters a year with about 10 pigs a litter. And if half of them are female they can have pigs in 4 to 6 months not as many the first litter or two though. So you see how they can take over. You have the best thing in the world if you want to hunt hogs do like i do to hunt big deer and travel you can hunt them on my place for free.

My partner shot a big boar friday night in Cadmas, needless to say the landowner was thrilled. Suckers can flat tear up some crops, I' ve seen them do alot of damage in areas down south.
