I know, this isn't a hunting story, but more a fishing re-cap but there is no where else to post this!:biggrin:
Maybe I should have included fishing when we set this up.;)
So here we go.....
We did our annual Fishing trip to Lake Ontario this past week for King Salmon, Steelhead, and maybe some Browns. Been doing this for 11 years I think.
I haven't been able to go for a few years due to summer Baseball team commitments that I coached, so when it was over after last year, I Re-worked my whole summer schedule this year to "catch up" and enjoy this summer.
My Son, friend Mark and his Friend Danny headed out late last week and fished Friday-Sunday. We had great weather, a little hot in the afternoons, but overall very nice and caught close to 30 fish. we lost a few too.
My Son caught a very nice Steelie on Friday night and we knew right out the gate, he would be a "money" fish.
The only problem was that we had to be in the Fishing Derby by 7:00 am Friday and didn't enter until a little after noon that day. On Sunday we found out he would have taken 2nd place in that divsion, if his Fish was able to be entered. It ended up being 31" long and weighed just under 16 lbs.
We caught many Steelies in the 4-7lb range and several in the 8-12lb range. Our 6 King Salmon ranged from 20-26 lbs. Some of the steelies had a very vice Rainbow summer coloration this year.
We tried for some Browns one morning, but couldn't get them to hit the lures.
Chas and Mike were great hosts as usual.
Here's some pics, enjoy!!

and as soon as we boated the King and was trying to get him out of the net, our one diver hooked another good fish, I handed the Rod to Matt and he boated this steelie within 5 minutes of the King.

Nice fish, must'a been a blast. That one King that Matt is holding looks like it has a lamprey mark on it's side. Need to try that some day....

45….If it fits, go for it. That one states it’s for Ohio Cold water species…so I steered away from it, since this was Lake Ontario, but it may make more sense.
Maybe we add a new one in fishing for “Non-resident Ohio Fish”?????
We did target 47.3-47.7 degree water. That is the temp Kings like. The surface water temperature was 74-75 degrees.
We started about 3 miles out on Friday and ended 11 miles out on Sunday. The Browns were close to shore, just wouldn’t cooperate the one attempt we made.
Revette; Yes it was. I think that was the only one that had any marks. We have had them now and then over the years.
Yes it was CJd3....don't know how many more years my son and I will get to do it, so it's nice to have him around. He really enjoys the fishing I think a tad more then the hunting. He picked fishing up after he finished playing sports, even though he started hunting around 14. He spent a good part of this summer fishing.

Yes it was a charter. We met them over 10 years ago, and hooked up back then, and we have become pretty good friends.
Ron is about 67 and he is a big bow hunter too. Shot a nice 140 class whitetail last year in Illinois, and a nice Elk in Colorado. He isn't "working" that much on the boat this summer.....he has been doing this in this area they fish for almost 30 years and is local. Chas who use to be his helper "mate" is now helping and was doing most of the work this summer along with Mike.
We know each other well enough, where they allow us to "use' some of our thoughts and suggestions, and kind of let us "work" the water a bit which is nice.
I think they both were born and raised in the area.
Mark who is in one of the pictures here, caugt a King a few years back that would of won the Derby Grand prize...it weighed just under 38 Lbs. The issue why he didn't win, was he didn't enter the contest!!!!:yikes::biggrin:
He would of won $4,500.00!!! There are pics somewhere and even a picture from Chas and Ron harassing him.....if you want, I can find them and post them. In fact, I'll see if I can find them and post it anyway.
You want info, pm me and I will fill you in.
I screwed up the pictures somewhat. I used a new hosting site, and it defaulted to a a larger picture which messed up the post a bit here. I realized I could pic the pictire size after they were loaded. It wasn't like photobucket where it sized it accordingly on the upload.

Thanks osam..all me.
I found Mark's pics of the 37 plus pound King.
http://i25.tinypic.com/2u53vv5.jpg
After the Derby Ron and Chas sent him the pic below "showing" him, he beat the grand prize fish by almost 1.5 lbs. The circled number was 35.9 lbs. They had to rub in that $4,500 he could have won!!!!:biggrin::biggrin:

I fixed the picture size too.
