Now I have been an outdoors man all my life but I'm not sure which this is.
Its tail is over twice as long as its body. The color is more like a deer (deer mouse?) than a house or field mouse. Not really looking like a squirrel but... Its nose is blunt, not really pointed like a mouse... It also has Very large feet. I was outside this evening and saw this little tan thing hopping in the grass. That is a US dime next to it. If its just a mouse, I guess I've never seen one so young.

What is it

Are they common in North East Ohio? I don't think I have ever seen one.

I believe what you have there is a Woodland Jumping Mouse, a young one. That would explain the features of the nose not being full and the eyes not fully alert and wide. Also explains how you got close enough to put a dime beside it. The kangaroo mouse is not an Ohio species, although it looks similar with the huge back legs. There is also a Meadow jumping mouse, but they are darker and duller colored.
