went out to a private pond this afternoon and got on the ice about twenty feet off shore, it was about two inches thin,i would have fished but left everything home ,it,s almost there to be completly safe but still risky, hopefully by next week if we don,t get to much snow tommorrow to insulate it and will be harder for ice to form under the snow.

hey guys,
not to burst anyone's ice fishing bubble, but there is no such thing as safe ice. i don't care if it is a foot thick.. just be real aware of where you are and whats around. and snow covered is the most dangerous. all holes and cracks are hidden. i am an avid ice fisherman and have been through the ice more then i like
and it is scary and painfull. just be carefull

don,t worry my bubble didn,t get burst i ,ve also ice fished since the mid sixties in high school i am always carefull out there i,ve walked a mile out towards the lake erie islands for walleye and limited out that day if your not sure of conditons don,t go.i go on mosquito lake when i see other guys out there and follow there trail a lot of current in those bigger waters.but a small acre type pond are the safest to try for first ice.safe ice to all and a good season to come...
