So I am hoping to get some good pictures off my camera this week. I hada minerl lick by my dads stand last year and it didnt look like it was getting hit at all. Went down there yesterday to hang some stands, and they got the lick down to about 1/4 of the size, and they have been pawing the ground and there is a 4" x 1' round hole in the ground full of water. Seems to me like they have been eating the dirt..

Have you guys had alot of luck with bucks hitting a minerl lick and coming back to it, is it just a night thing or have you seen them come in during the day etc.?

I thought it was a waste of money until what I saw yesterday.

Mineral licks are worth all the money, time and effort. However, the amount of use they will see this time of year is minimal compared to earlier in the year. Once the velvet dries up and the does stop lactating, I notice a huge drop in visitors. The time to run the cameras over them for me has been from April through July. After that, I move them to travel corridors. But it is good you have one established and they have had time to find it. Refresh that thing around mid-March and then once a month through July before a rain and you will have a lick that will benefit the herd and get you the pics you are after...

I put the mineral block in there last year in the spring. I noticed that it didnt hardly get touched at all then. This is the first time I have seen it used and it is almost gone. I was really surprised. Should I put another block in there.

I guess I should definately move my dads stand than. His stand is about 20-25 yards off it over top of a thicket over looking it and some trails.

I doubt another block will make a difference unless the one that is there is almost gone. And I would move that stand if that is one of the primary reasons you hung it. If the area is still a good area to hunt, I would leave it. But hunting a mineral lick is a giant waste of time...

OK cool. I told my dad we need to move his stand out of that area, he never sees anything in that stand all year, but damnit if in the beginning of the season we dont see some sort of good sighn that says leave it there. This year we are moving it. It just never works out for him.

I think I am going to leave the camera there this week. I am going down this weekend to put my stands up and move his then we wont be in there till day 1 of the season. So maybe ill get some pics off of it.

When I put my stand up I am going to put my camera up right by my stand that way the only time I will be able to mess with it is when i am get out to go home and when I come in, in the morning. (turn it on when i leave, turn it off when i come in)
