View Full Version : Information Please
I live in northeast ohio in Lake county and would like to fish the Ohio river, But , don't know where to go or how to get access. I would be fishing from the bank.
Any info would be appreciated.
Also , what kind of gear is the best choice?
thanks
Jim
Probably a good idea to tell us what you're fishing for. Where are you located will also let us know the best way to access where to go. Rte's 11 and 7 will give direct access to the river as will 30. Lots of people who fish it as well as I. I fish it for small mouth and use a boat so my bank fishing access is limited as far as where to park and trails leading to the bank spots. But there will be somone letting you know more info although probably not to thier hot spots  :D Good luck and welcome to the site.
Thanks for the response and the welcome.
I'd be fishing for on the bottom, for what ever wants to fight, i don't plan on keeping anything, so will be catch and release, i don't know much about base and such, would like to go after big cars, Carp, pretty much anything.Just looking to have some fun.
I'm off of rt 528 so Rt11 or Rt 7 either one would work for me
Thanks
Jim

Most of the dams on the river offer good fishing below them that is public access. I fish Belleville and Racine mostly. The side of the dam with the tailrace varies from dam to dam. Belleville's tailwater is on the WV side, Racine's is on the OH side. You can catch fish from either one, but typically the best fishing is on the tailrace side. There are lots of cats in those tailraces, the downside is there are also lots of snags, usually. If you are bottom fishing, bring plenty of hooks, sinkers, and swivels!
thanks for the adivse, what size sinker and hook would you advise, i usually use 1.0 hooks , are those good enough?
