Well I've got an invite to elk hunt Idaho next month. I'm attending a conference in San Diego and we planned to leave from there. As long as my command approves my leave request I'm going. This would work out really nice because I have another conference in Quantico, Virgina at the end of the month and I could leave from the elk hunt to that meeting.

My gear is staged and ready to go so all my mother has to do is mail it. I'm definitly keeping my fingers crossed on this one.

BTW Idaho NR elk tags/liscense/archery permits are EXPENSIVE. My family may have to eat ramen noodles for a while.....:mischeif::bouncy:

A little ramen never hurt anyone.

Good luck on getting your hunt worked out.

since it would be very expensive to ship the meat to Italy, maybe you could donate it to somebody on the forum to hold a picnic, like Riverdude;s plans

Assuming I lucked out and got one, I'd have to give the meat away. Even if I wanted to I can't export meat to Italy. They actually have dogs that sniff passengers and baggage looking for meat and I've even seen a few people get busted with beef jerky.

Well it's looking good. Tomorrow's my first day back to work and I'm not expecting to much oposition from my boss about the trip. I just need to come up with the $$$.

I started my mountain training regime today. I put 30 pounds of filled water bottles in my back pack and went for a short hike tonight. Tomorrow am it's the stairs w/pack and sprints during lunch.

I started shooting longer distances today too. I've got a LONNG way to go with the voodoo, but luckly I shoot my alpine better.

That's awesome TF. Good luck out there. Are you shooting trad or cp? It would be quite the challenge to shoot one of them critters with stick and string. I look forward to the "Live Operation Idaho Elk" reports.

20 and a wake up!!!

I've been hiking the steep hills with about 45 or 50 pounds on my back.

I'm GTG out to 30 yards with my Voodoo long bow so I'll be kicking MAJOR butt with my alpine.

tf,get ready to be spoiled for life!
the scenery and the amount of game out west is amazing.if you're gonna be hunting at a high altitude try to arrive a day or two early to get acclimated to the thin air,it'll really help!
have fun and i hope you fill your tag.

18 and a wake up!

My shooting has improved quite a bit, but still not close to where it was prior to my OIF deployment. Regardless at 35 yards I'm confident I can hit an elk in the kill zone.

17 and a wake up!

Man I've got to take it easy on the PT. Before or after work I've been hiking around with about 45/50 pounds on my back. During lunch I've been lifting weights. I'm BEAT up, sore, tired, and just flat out wore out. So I'm going to tone it down over labor day weekend. Actually we're going to Corfu, Greece (yes I'm bragging) so I'll have some time to heal up.

Allora

Questo giorno di settimana prossima sono caccero per il alce

which says........Caccero for the elk are this day of next week.

It should be.... Questa volta.... la settimana prossima sarà caccia all'alce!!!:D

You know this Italiano sentence structure is KILLING me.

Va bene

Just finished my last "hike" up the Carney Park Rim. It's about a mile straight up. It's funny because it took my 30 minutes to get to the top, but only 15 to get down.....

I try to check my comments on freetranslation.com to make sure I'm getting close. Most of the time I'm close, but like I said the sentence structure and terms they use always screw me up.

One of the biggest beefs I have is when I don't get corrected by Italians. I know they mean well, but I appreciate it alot when they stop me and explain how to speak it correctly. Otherwise Io guarda un stupido americano..... (or close to that):cheeky-smiley-022:;)

OK, so here I am sitting in the airport in Munich, Germany waiting for my flight to Washington D.C. and then to San Diego. Hopefully my business class upgrade goes through so I can't "kick" back on the flight....:bouncy:

Anyway, 6 days to go and this time next week I'll be about 6500 feet in the moutains!

Yelp that about sums it up!!!! I'd almost forgotten the anticipation of a hunting adventure. :dizzy:;)

Yesterday I went to a local archery range and shot the alpine. I'll be honest and admit I was having some SIGNIFICANT issues.:dizzy: Back in Ohio I had a serious problem with shooting 8 to 12 inches high out to 30 yards. At 40 I was shooting better than I have had at that distance. At first I thought it was my grip, but I'm positive that's not it because I've been using the same grip for years. Then I noticed my serving was coming un-done. I took my bow to a local pro-shop and got the bow restrung, re-knocked, and back on target! I think when I drew back the arrow was sliding on the string, but we'll see. I'm planning on hitting the range one last time before I head to my buddies outs at 10 am. Also, another issue was my Alpine doesn't have a wall where my voodoo does. I got used to my voodoo so shooting the alpine was a bit different. I'm not to worried about it though. I've got two more days to get used to it again before we head to Idaho.
