Anyone shoot the smaller gauges? I handload for both .410 (a bear to get a good load) and the 28 (a sweetheart to load). I do most of my hunting with the 28 and it whallops pheasants.
I use a MEC Sizemaster for each gauge and also have one in 12 gauge.
If the 28 was more popular with more guns and ammo available, it would be a great gauge for a beginners as it is much better than the .410 and lighter than a 20, if you get one that is made on a 28 gauge frame. I have both an 1100 and a Ruger Red Label in 28.
