What kind of experiences have you had with the modern lines? I used Fireline one season and then went back to Trilene. Been thinking about using Fireline or SpiderWire on a couple of casting type reels that I use for trolling an inland lake (as in not Erie). I might use Dipsy Divers this year and thought the stronger line without an increase in diameter might be a good idea.

I would think any of the super lines would be good especially in the Dipsy-Diver application. Low stretch, small dia, and lure retreivability definitely sure help when you snag a $5.99 crankbait:eek:
I use both in different presentations.....vertical jigging requires a quick hookset and Fireline will give it to ya! 14# will recover most snagged jigheads and spoons and put more fish in the boat. Casting a jig and minnow combo, I like flourescent Stren that I can see a light hit and also feel it thru a sensitive graphite rod;) ....tf

I use Stren Clear Blue exclusively. Every time I have ever varied from that the results have always been bad. I do think the braided lines or super lines have there place in trolling, but I prefer not to troll. It is too much like plowing water and not as much fun IMO. I'll stay with the 8lb Stren mono.

If you are going to pull dipseys then a braid of some sort is pretty much needed. You might also want to look at the Power Pro and the Cabelas Ripcord Braids. I prefer both of these to the Fireline as they are "softer" and I seem to get a long better with them. The new 8 lb Power Pro worked very well this year for jigging also. Good Luck.

I agree with Matt ... with additional comment about my short trial with fire-line. On my lake fire-line picked up the grit from the water & was hard on the rod guides along with the reel n' also caused a krappy mess. I ave 8 hrs a day on the water just about everyday ~ trollin' with super braids, but do a lil' castin' with mono.
