My claim about the I40, which I admit has a lot of flaws, was that daytime picture quality is the best I have personally seen from an IR camera. I have 8 award plaques on my office wall from photo competitions, so I feel somewhat qualified to examine photos for their quality and color. What I am looking at is brightness, contrast, crispness, and vivid colors.

As an example of a photo I will nit-pick the details of one of my favorite ScoutGuard photos:

What I see when I look at this photo is:

-muted colors
-washed out areas
-soft edges

Not to take anything away from the photos you posted, they are impressive, but I see some of the same photo flaws. In all reality, though, it's hair-splitting, because I'm sure you would agree that fine image quality is not Priority #1...Priority #1 is documenting what walks past your camera, not producing magazine-quality photos. I have a Nikon DSLR for that. ;):D Clearly your camera is EXCELLENT in that regard!

When I look at these photos from my I40, I see sharp edges and vivid colors, unlike the SG550 image above:

The I40 has several flaws I would change, but photo quality is not one of them. Even though the SG550 is not as sharp and crisp on the images, I much prefer it over the I40 and my Cuddeback Excite white flash camera. The I40 needs a better security system built in, a more inconspicuous case (I think they corrected that for this year's I45 model), and a slightly faster shutter speed at night, in my humble opinion. I also think the SG550 blows it out of the water in video mode.

How can you really compare a Chevy Aveo againt a Mercedes E-class if you have never driven a Benz? I guess since I don't have 8 shiny plaques on my wall, I don't know what I am talking about when it comes to trail cams and quality pictures. O, and to all the lesser untrained eyes out there like myself without plaquered certified judgement skills, those I40 are 4MP and those BEC pics are .8MP so that mean at the "weakest" setting the BEC's produce "pretty pics" too. Do you really see that big a difference? Maybe I bump mine to 3MP and show you what I can get? Then you can adjust your settings... O wait, you can't do that. My bad...

With all due respect Jeff, this is a pointless arguement. I am super busy today getting ready for the shoot. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. A Benz does not have to be sold, it is bought. When people have the money, they treat themselves to the best. When you decide you want the best, call me. Same goes for any one else out there. I think you completely misinterpreted the flaws that I outlined. They are in the last paragraph, and have nothing to do with the camera missing anything...unless the security system somehow affects the motion detection? :coco:

Jesse, buddy, I'm not sure what you wanted to accomplish by opening this can of worms. I can tell you through the wonders of Microsoft Vista that your photos you posted are 640x480 resolution. Guess what mine are...640x480, the lowest resolution setting for the camera. I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to look at two images from different cameras and say "This one is brighter, more vivid, and sharper." And as usual, you take a simple comment, and even though I tried to preface it in a way that you wouldn't blow up into defensive mode, you did it anyway. You interpret that as "My camera is better than yours" and that's not what I am saying. I think it might be a good idea for you to take a page out of your own book and worry about you and your things, let me worry about mine. I'll say it again, BEC makes great trail cameras. The details of picture quality I pointed out are minor details because what really matters is that you get the photo of what triggers the camera and you can see what it is. Isn't that the point of a trail camera? I couldn't care les if the image is B&W all day, I don't even need color images during the day. All I want and need is to see what triggered the camera. All I did was add an opinion that I think the I40 takes awesome color photos, and now I'm being persecuted for that.

Barrel.... Bone.... whats the difference right.. I mean it's only density right..... The bottom line is on a level playing field through a barrel the rage lost.. It sucked.. It broke.. The ST didn't.. You can say it's not deer all day long.. But the fact is it wasn't a deer for the ST either.. And it did a better job
