Hey guys,

looking to do an out of state elk hunt. I would really like to do a DIY hunt, but not opposed to a guided hunt. Have any of you ever done a DIY elk hunt? if so, where? and would you go again? and If you've been on a guided ELK hunt what outfit did you go with and did you enjoy it? Also, for you avid elk hunters, what are the best states to elk hunt and not have to worry about draws.....any info would be appreciated

Most of the best tags are by draw. Many will take points too. OTC tags are available in Colorado & Idaho, Utah has some spike units. If you have any questions about Colorado or Wyoming I have hunted them lot and can assist you. Mike Eastman wrote a good elk book and in it he mentions on DIY type hunts, your best bet would be to hunt an area for a few years and it'll pay off, especially if you lock onto a good area from the get go. Are you going to archery, rifle or muzzleloader hunt?

SO Outfitters.....I've done both once, but if you need any outfitter info, Pm me and I'll pass along what information I have. I know of a couple good ones in 2 different states.
