Max runs a consignment auction house and also does a buy/swap/trade/flea market the 1st weekend of May and October. He has organized an event that is getting a lot of local support here that will be a substitute for the Kenton Nationals.

LIMA - When Max McCluer heard the national coon dog race in Kenton was ending its 50-plus year history he quickly put out feelers on a possible similar event in Allen County. The response proved overwhelming.
"We are getting a lot of response back from people wanting to get in on this event," he said, adding that he's been getting calls from people who attended the Kenton nationals for years and were saddened when it closed.
Max's Water Dog Races, Swap Meet and Flea Market will be held over Labor Day weekend at the Allen County Fairgrounds. The event starts on the Saturday before Labor Day.
Organizers announced in April they were canceling the Kenton National Coon Dog National Field Trials and Flea Market, citing the economy. It could return one day.
McCluer had planned the new event for his property, but interest grew so much that he moved it to the fairgrounds.
Along with water dog races and a dog treeing contest, McCluer said the event will include family activities like horseshoe pitching, cornhole contests, owner-dog look-alike contests, petting zoo and horse show.
"We want to make this a family thing," he said, adding that no alcohol will be sold.
McCluer, who has run a flea market for 20 years, hopes to attract some 400 vendors. He expects dog owners from around the country and possibly the world. The coon dog chases, like those held in wooded areas in Kenton, aren't possible because of space, McCluer said.

The Allen County Fairgrounds is a wonderful facility holding numerous big venues yearly. Alot of guys on here may have been to the monthly Tri-State gun shows held there. Topped off now with the National Trappers Convention and Max's event, I'm sure glad it's close to home.

I work then, but I'll be there everyday, it's only 30 minutes away. My Dad is camping there. If you are interested in staying, it's filling up super fast for those prices.

Considering the Kenton Coon Dog Trials might never re-open, this could become an annual event or our community. That would be cool!

Will there be anything going on Friday? Thats the day a bunch of us always went to Kenton. Also can u carry alcohol around their? Just some questions people been asking. THANK YOU!!

Deer Nut- Not sure about the alcohol. I know there will be quite a few police, but they do it at the National 1/2mile dirt track race every year. How is that for not really answering your question?

I am setting up next to the grandstands. You will have to walk past my 3 booths to get into the infield exhibitors. You cannot miss me. There will be a white step van with Hicks Lawn Services, LLC all over it. Please stop in and introduce yourselves. I would love to get to know some faces with the user names from this site. Probably also see our 25' gooseneck trailer with a smoker on the top deck, and my red dually sitting there with the business name on the back doors. Popup camper will be setup and I am spending the whole weekend there. Stop in even late evening if you want. Looking forward to meeting some of you guys.
