I have been shooting deer slugs for years thru a full choke shotgun barrel..I recently became aware that I may be inviting disaster, is this true?

I've heard you can damage your gun buy doing it.

Yes, it's true that it could cause serious damage or injury. A lot of it depends on the actual restriction of the choke, but the possibility is there. Many people do so without realizing the danger and never have a problem, but it's always better to be safe than sorry. Improved cylinder will give you the best results.

I shoot an improved cylinder choke and it seems to work just fine. Now, if I could just get a deer within range?

I know that the old model 12 smooth bores in full choke will handle the 2 3/4" shells with astounding accuracy. A friend has poured hundreds of slugs thru his with no problems and has neck shot deer at over 100 yds with only a bead front sight! Of course, we're talking lower velocity shells here like standard Win. at maybe 1350fps with smooth barrel!
Would'nt want to try it with today's screw in full choked barrel and 3" ammo that may put out 1600-1700fps and much higher velocities. Could be an accident waiting to happen.
No of a guy that cracked the stock on his new turkey 870 gun after installing a super full choke on it!! Today's ammo and tighter chokes can create a dangerous situation and you gotta be carefull;) ......TF
