What is your favorite ATV?

I hate ATVs being used by hunters unless it is taking a deer out responsibly

If the hunter has a long way to get to his hunting spot...ATV's are fine and to drag deer out, But these guys that only have to travel a couple hundred yards and race all the way to there spot...thats something else...
For a sport quad the 1988 honda TRX250r, that thing really rips, a utility I would have to say the Yamaha grizzly 660, lots of power and looks cool too!

grizzly? Naw, the Polaris 700 spanks the crap out of the Griz.
I actually have no idea when it comes to all purpose ATV's. I just liked Yamaha style, I've never ridden any of em. I've had my share of time on the raptor, and the 660 is kind of ballsy. So thats where I was making my choice. As long as you can shift the gears and 4wd manually, Im cool with it. I cant stand those snowmobile engine quads. IMO

I worked on them for ten years. I will take the Yamaha hands down.
4X4, 3 cyl Desial, 3 point hitch, Mahatsue (SP?) Tractor:D. This Li'l 20 hp work horse is a real charm, No it does not have the speed of the one's you all are talking about but it has a good clearence and center of gravety and I can use it just about any ware I want to, Plus it is grait to have all the farm att that I can work with it on the PTO.

I bought a new 2003 Polaris Magnum 330 4x4 and I F@#*ing hate it!! I dont know if I got stuck with a lemon or what but that thing has givven me more swearing fits than any one machine should!!! It wont stay runnin, the starter cuts out, the battery is constantly going dead, it's as touchy as a woman with PMS!!! Also the C-BUS dealer I bought it from was'nt that helpful but that is'nt what this thread is about. And dont get me started about automatic transmissions. In short my vote wont be for ANY Polaris!!!
sorry to hear about your luck. I agree with you 100%

Sorry to hear that. You must have gotten a lemon. We have not had a single problem with our 700 polaris.

I had it worked on it last week and I think some of the problems are fixed. The one remaining big problem is that I think they instaled the winch wrong. My battery wont stay charged. I tell ya I am begining to think I have a "P.O.S"on my hands!!!

How long have you had it? I think ATV batteries are only good for a couple years.

It is brand new, 2003, I have only ran like 4 tanks of gas through it. That battery should be like new.
That sucks, a few more problems and I'd be talkin to some people from POLARIS.
Forget the dealership, all they want is your money, I'd try to call someone higher up. They dont like to hear that their product is junk.

You have just "inspired" me to give corprate H.Q a call and let them know how un-satisfied I am with their product. I paid almost $6,000.00 for somthing that sits in the garage and never starts when you need to use it. Boys I am here to tell ya if your thinkin about buyin a new ATV do your homework and ride it before you buy it!!!!!
Polaris = P.O.S!!!!
Glad I could help inspire you.
Hopefully something will come of this. At the very least you documented your problems and spoke you mind. Keep us posted, I'm looking forward to hearing how it went!!

Sounds like you have a short somewhere, maybe when they installed the winch they made a bad ground connection. Or the battery is bad from the factory. Wouldnt be the first time for that.
I bought a 400 Kodiak in Aug 2003 and havent had the first problem. Been using it for food plots and much more, running strong. My votes for the Yam's.

My fathern law has a new Honda ATV and it broke down 3 times this year already......for that amount of money it should run for years without breaking down..

Polaris Explorer 300 4x4 and Sportsman 500 here. Not a whole lot of problems except routine maintainance. The Explorer steers a little tight but Polaris has modified the newer bikes.

My dad and I each bought new Polaris Trail Boss's in '97. Had some problems, nothing too major, unitl my got stolen. After I got the insurance check I ended up getting a Honda Rancher, the reason: Polaris's Customer Service Has Went Down Hill since they got so big. We did & still do go out of our way to visit a good Polaris Shop, not trying to give out free publicity but the Tipp City Polaris shop has treated my family good. On the other hand we have a Polaris shop in my hometown that I refuse to visit. Just 6 months ago even though we've had problems my dad & uncle went there, my uncle wanted a 500 Sportsman, the guys wife was great, but as soon as the owner came in the shop he got mad becasue my uncle was sitting on the unit while it was on the showroom floor, he has signs that say "Please Dont Sit On Units"-sort of like saying here take this new Hummer for a test drive, just dont touch the gas. Sort of stupid. Well, my dad & uncle left w/out saying anything & went to Tipp City & bought the Sportsman.
Its not just individual dealerships, I got into an argument w/ someone from HQ, I think it was in Minnesota or Canda somewhere. I was explaning to him the lousy service & how it costed this particualr dealer a sale, the guy @ HQ basically said I was lying & had no intentions on buying one, well a couple hours later I faxed him over my purchase order for a 350 Honda Rancher. Not too much longer I got a call from the same dealer that always gave us porblems appoligizing!
So my point of that long rant: I wont buy Polaris, my dad & I each now have 350 Honda Ranchers w/ electric Shift, his is 4x4 mine isnt.

I have spoken with Polaris HQ and you speak the gospel Water Melon, They are horrible!! I cant beleive that a company as big as Polaris has such lousy coustemer service reps!! They act like they could'nt give a rat's rear end about you cause they have your money and that's all that matters. I was lookin for them at the Deer and Turkey Expo a couple of weeks ago in C-bus but they was'nt there. lucky for them cause I would have not gone easy on them!!

I have been checking out the Yamaha's. I am really interested in the Kodiak 400 4x4. If I can get my finances in a little better shape by the end of this summer, I just might get one in September.

I just got to pay off the credit card and I still may consider getting one. Not sure though. Still on the fence. I better get one now because if I ever marry my girlfriend I don't think she would be big on me getting one.

Suzuki all the way. If you read the mags the Suzuki Ozark 250, Eiger 400 and Vinson 500 have won the Shootouts for overall best in every size. I have the Vinson and can't ask for anything more. Although I would probably own the NEW King Quad 700 if I didn't already have the Vinson. It has EFI and Independant suspension, locking front differential.
By the way Arctic Cats have a Suzuki motor

Ask and you will receive. I just got the new issue of Dirt Wheels and low and behold , a 700 class shootout of the Suzuki King Quad 700 (vs.) Kawasaki Brute Force 750 (vs.) Polaris Sportsman 700. If you want details I'll repost but short story
Clear winner- 1. Suzuki King Quad
2. Polaris Sportsman
3. Kawasaki Brute Force

This is a powerful statement. If I were going to buy a 4 wheeler, then this is what I would get.

My favorite ATV is any ATV that is parked unless hauling a deer out of the woods, or providing transportation to someone with a disability. Other than that, more people need to walk their lazy butts to their stands.
Airwave(OH)

Just because That last statement was sorta directive, I do walk to my stand, I do use the Quad to haul my deer out though, I mostly use the quad for pleasure, riding various trail systems such as Hatfield McCoy in West Virginia , Wayne National Forest in Ohio, the Piaute Trail in Utah, and Elliot Lake in Ontario.

Have you been there before. That is a nice trail system, probably the easiest of them. If you need info on the trails I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.

its 7:46 right now gonna head outta here around 9 go hook up to the 24ft trailor(hauler/camper) and should be down there around noon to 12:30. We have never been to waterways, we have been to dingess rum(bear wallow) trail head 3 times. We did have about 10 people going , but im sure you know how that is they all back out at the last minute, so now we only have 6. a honda rancher 350(mine), dads rancher 400, a foreman 450,250ex,another rancher 350, and a 450r.

I started having problems with my Polaris 500 Sportsamn after the winch was put on, battery problems, makes a clicking sound like a celanoid going bad and the dealer had no answer, thats what bugged me. It runs fine, strong, fast, and no belt slipping when running thru the creek like some have suggested.

We had a problem much like that when we used to put winches on on Hondas and Yamahas. It turned out that there was a bad ground for the winch. Not sure if that is your problem but you might check it. This happened to seveal before we figured it out. For what it is worth.
