I was fishing from a boat below the Racine Dam last night with a few friends. The catfishing was a little slower than expected, and on the run back to the boat ramp a little after dark, along the Ohio side at a barge loading site there was a huge light on. As we went by, we could see this gigantic cloud of mayflies extending all the way from the light to the water surface maybe 30' below the light...and fish were BLASTING those flies as they hit the water. Of all times not to have a fly rod with me! :irked:

We fished there for maybe half an hour, throwing 2" white grubs on UL gear, catching white bass after white bass after white bass. I had never seen such a concentration of big mayflies like that, and the fishing was incredible. I took a photo with my phone, but can't figure out how to get it out! I don't have a USB cable that fits it, but if I can send it to a friend, have them export the pic, then email it back to me, I'll post it.

Cream, you can send a pic from your phone to your email. You just have to type in your email in the bar for where to send it(you may need to find a button to change the numeric to alpha). Then, open your email and save it to your pc. Then, upload it and wallah!

Sounds like a cool deal on the white bass extravaganza. A fly rod would have been sweet!

Amazing photo. :yikes: I've experienced those white bass "extravaganzas" and they are a lot of fun!

Growing up I use to fish the Susquehanna River in NE PA, the fishing use to be incredible during the tremendous mayfly hatches on that river. Use to wade and fish with the flyrod, we caught tons of smallies, a few channel cats and even an occasional walleye belive it or not using size 12 White Royal Wulfs.

Great pic, next tiem throw soem white rooster tails.

Cool picture. I saw some dying mayflies on the sidewalk in Huntington, WV (Along the river) on Friday the 10th).

Was in mayfly hatches on Erie this June. Felt like we were in a snowstorm!

I was lucky enough to catch in on this too last week. Man that action was hot and heavy to be sure. Was kinda hopin to drag a skippy or two outta that mess, but, you cant complain when the fishing is like that. RIver has been weird so far this year, hope it improves as we get into august.
