One of my favorite memories growing up was catching rock bass in the Scioto. I grew up on River Rd just a mile north of St Rte 37W. Since I started taking my kids down to the Scioto in the past few summers I noticed one thing, I haven't caught a single rock bass! I caught w white bass which was unheard of when I was a kid. I love taking my ultralight gear there in hopes of getting a RB but so far I haven't. Anyone else notice a drop off or am I just in a dry spell? Kyle? As much kayaking as you do I figured you would be one to ask.
I hope it is just a dry spell, I absolutely love how those lil monsters hit and fight!

I fish just a bit North of ya, Waldo/Cardington area. When I'm wading the creeks, I catch about 1 rock bass to every 3 smallmouth. I'm with you though, there used to be alot more of them in this area.

Dave, I have heard others mention the Scioto seems to have fewer rock bass this summer and last. I know there are plenty in the Olentangy. I also get them in the creeks(Darby & Kokosing). I don't know why there are fewer these days? They usually can't resist a small inline spinner like a rooster tail or a mepps.

I know this is WAY out of the area you guys are talking about, but over the 4th of July weekend, I fished the Tygart River in north central WV, and I TORE UP the rockies!!! I fished for 4 days hardcore and probably caught 80 to 100 RB's. Those things have the heart of a muskie in the package of a bluegill!!!!! What a blast!!!
