I found your site after I recently learned of no Kenton Nationals this year. What an ultimate disappointment. Eddie Sr. and Bernice must be rolling in their final resting place. My husband and I have raced dogs there and spent our Labor Day weekend camped there for the last 41 years seeing old friends. I agree that our economy is bad but I do not buy this as being the reason Kenton is canceled this year. I heard that this is a family issue with adotptive son Eddie Jr. and his adopted sister. There have been numerous problems in past years with the two of them since the passing of Eddie Sr. and Bernice Ross. Their selfish decision will impact the Kenton community immensley. Any of you that have been a supporter of the Kenton National/Leafy Oaks know that the entire area excert their efforts in yard sales and the Amish as well with their baked goods. Kenton National can live without the country bands. It survived before Shenandoah and the other want-to-be's came onto the grounds. It is such a shame that such a tradtion has come to an end. I do not forsee Kenton National to continue for others to enjoy for what it was intended by Eddie Sr. and Bernice Ross.

I am 30 and have went every year since about age 8. Totally agree about the bands. There is no possible way they could think they wouldn't make money. They have to pay insurance, security, and what else? Every year the place adds more and more people than the year before. Really a sad situation.

I think it's the tradition and the ability to see old friend that'll really be the loss here. I haven't had a hound since the early 1990s but did have champion Redbones,(night hunt and bench not field trial). Like seeing Fred Moran "The Redbone Man" there as he started me coon hunting in PA as a kid with a dog he had named Midnight Magic. Do all good thing have to come to an end?:irked:

I have posted on this before

Noone is really sure of why there is no kenton I still stay in the field trial loop even though I have been gone for 3 years now

Eddie's son's name is Jimmy Btw

it is my opinion and others it is a tax issue and insurance issue if you noticed the last two years some of the buildings and restrooms was removed and some not used ( the cafe) as an example

this was due to the county taxing them on the buildings this is a fact

as for other reasons beyond insurance and taxes I cannot comment but I do know the two named costs is the foremost reason for the demise

but I'm like 1000's of others how can you bring in millions yes i said millions and not make money ?
