I would have to say using fishing sites. I have learned quite abit reading and going out with fellow fisherman.;)

Divorce undoubtedly, I went almost 10 years without fishing untill I got Divorced 5 years ago, now my current wife like to fish also.:)

Time spent on the water FISHING is the only way to really learn..you can read til your brain hurts, but being able to apply this knowlege is the key!
If we are talking tackle..then the VAST improvements in rods $ reels has come a very long way...nothing like those old baitcasters my dad & grandfather used for flatheads 30+ yrs ago..those things for the time were ok i guess, but dang they sure are junk by todays standards..thank God for Shimano and Abu Garcia..lol

I thought you meant Buckeye Tom !!! I didn't know what OJ had to do with fishing....he's a golfer.
I like those fingers......;) deep in my wallet. New LCX-15mt w/GPS definitely improved my finding better structure & confidence in the areas. Circle hooks put the fish on the line.....
Fishing sites....From my start at BSP & all the new friends and advice from GFO I've fished more new spots with so many new friends I would've never believed it 2 years ago.
Experiance is the best teacher, so if I can use someone else's experiance, so much the better, saves me time. One needs to learn how to filter the good from the not so good. But once you understand that, I have trust in their posts. I learn alot from my partner too. He's fished the river for alot of years, I also went fishing with Doc alot. He's been on the river forever. So I apply that knowledge the same way I can give a guy advise on striper fishing where I fish for them. I have years of experiance, so if I tell you to try something, I know what I'm talking about. I these guys know too, so when they talk, I listen. Guys like Erie too !!

Lots of things like books and good magazine articles I highly appreciate, but the most influencial aids in finding, hooking, and landing big fish are 1. onstream experience and 2. personal onstream help from encredible fishermen. You can read everything on earth, talk to every person, and buy every new expensive piece of equipment available, but that won't make you a good fisherman. People a hundred years ago didn't need all that stuff, and we don't either. It helps, alot, but self reliance ,learning from experience and being observant, open minded, and intuitive are more important, to me, than anything else.

ERIE said it in a nutshell and mattgmann,expanded on it well.that's how i've learned most of what i know,with a little help in the past 2 years from great guys on the net.mainly gfo,and hopefully on this site in the future.

I voted for other. I think the best factor in helping me to catch any sized fish is LUCK.

Yep, the alum kites & the wire/weights - forerunners of the bottom bouncers. He used
bait/worms on the Cherry-Bobbers & June-Bug spinners some, but his favorite was a
Brooks-Reefer (kind of a jointed Flatfish lure). He became friends with the Game Warden
from Defiance Co & started fishin' his area around the North & West sides of North Bass
Isle - the size of the Eyes was nearly double from what Dad was getting off the reefs ..

No depth finders, No GPS & etc .. just the old school of hard knocks & triangulation with
a spare Compass(just in case)

PS .. I don't think anyone (at least Dad) realized Eyes suspend, we were always on or
close to the bottom, but I can remember days when Dad had the the lines set for 10-12'
on Niagara passes & would only get a hit on a switchback
