I have a Horton Tacoma Trac 150. I normally use Easton aluminum shafts, as thats what came with it when I bought it. I got some DeadHead 125gr. "tunable" broadheads. (don't know whether it makes an actual diff or not). I think the 125's may be too heavy for the shafts I use. What you guys think? I was also looking at some Rage broadheads or some Muzzy's, prolly 100 gr. I can get it to be pretty accurate with the 125's I just think there is too much drop too soon. Any opinions on the broadheads? Any other recommendations for decent, middle range$$$ aluminum shafts? I just started using the crossbow last year and I like it, but I don't know alot about the broadhead weight to shaft type of stuff.

Could a moderator move this thread to the main archery page? I don't think anyone has looked at this. Thanks!

Is there really that much of a difference in the Rage and other broadheads? They are really $$$$$.

I shoot 100 Gr. Rocky Mountain Assassins from my Horton Legend. Some folks don't like the mechanicals, but my experience has been limited, but positive. I have harvested 2 nice bucks with the assassins. Both were clean passthroughs. Neither buck went more than 60 yards.

I think the best way is to just try diff ones out till you find one you like.Go to your local bow shop and see if they have some you can test out.Or other friends that bow hunt.I think the main diff between heads it just the weight(and damage to the deer).I like the rages cause they fly just like my field tips. That and they blow HOLES in the deer.

I only got started last December so I have very little experience to tell you about...when I went in to Bass Pro to buy a crossbow I knew absolutely nothing...the Horton Summit 150 felt the best, so that's what I got...came with 20" Horton aluminum MX20 bolts...I asked the guy what I needed to start hunting and he gave me a box of 100 gr field tips and a sixpack of Muzzy fixed broadheads...so I'm assuming the 100 gr is probably best for my setup. I've been practicing with the Horton alum bolts and a different brand carbon bolt and the Horton bolts have been more consistent. But like I said, what the heck do I know? I called Horton to ask about using other brand bolts, and they said you should use Horton bolts, but then said it really didn't matter.

there was a good thread on broadheads here recently...made me think that Rage is absolutely deadly. I'm really thinking about getting some.

They swear by them because they spent a small fortune on them and all the cool kids are doing it.. It's marketing.. I think they cost a fortune for what they are.

I have been shooting Slick Tricks for years (the same heads) yes years killed many deer with them, even the same blades. The blades are replaceable but i haven't had a need to yet. Besides meat they have been through ribs, 2 shoulder blades, dug out of 2 pine trees and a popular, And always stick 3 or so inches in the ground after a pass through.. By all means those blades should be destroyed.. I have one head that has a small dent in the edge of the blade. (Like if you tried to chop a nail with a kitchen knife) So it's retired pending replacement blades.. But usually i just use a extra fine wet stone and put a razors edge back on them. Here is the greatest part... 24.99 for 3 heads and 12.99 for replacement blades every 2 or 3 years... Almost half the price of Rage.
