Did you ever wonder what it would take to draw a tag in a specific species in another State?
How many preference points you will need?
How long?
This will help.....click on the state and follow the prompts...

UTAH has some VERY GOOD Elk and Deer hunting!
I have 8 preference points for Shiras Moose in Wyoming...I need a few more before I have a shot at drawing in the area I want to hunt....;)

I started buying preference points for elk two years ago. This past year I started buying mule deer and antelope points too. Hopefully by the time I actually draw the tag I'll have been elk hunting a few times and kinda know what I'm doing.
Actually you just never know with these lotteries. I had a buddy who drew a Utah limited entry elk tag with only five points.

That is correct. You just work it into a position so you have an opportunity and then apply, even if your a little short of the amount.
I have 3 preference points for Iowa and Kansas for Whitetail waiting to get burned up right now. They will most likely draw wherever I apply the 1st time.
I have enough knowledge to apply in Wyoming to get a Deer or Antelope tag without points...odds are pretty good I can.
I have accumulated 2 Elk and 3 Deer for Colorado too....I'm just stacking them up for possible future use....I missed the deadline this year to get my app in or I would have had more..
I would like to Try Utah,Washington, Arizona, and New Mexico in the future...Right now, I'm struggling to get time to do these...
Now If I win the lottery...all of that changes:biggrin:

I've got two points for Iowa and four for Kansas. I was "this" close to hunting Kansas this year. I got an email from an outfitter who has having a hard time filling clients this year and basically reduced the price of the hunt by 50%. Unfortunatly I couldn't work the logistics, but next year might be an option.

I have a guy that works for me, who owns about 200 acres in Kansas.....that's my plan there, whenever I can work it in.....someday

I had 3 elk pp till this year. 4 of us are going 1st rifle in unit 77, an area that you can draw 80-90 % of the time for 1st rifle elk with no points. 4 of us applied as a group, myself with 3 pp, a buddy with 2 pp, and the other two fellows with no points. we didn't apply our points to the draw but evidentally it doesn't matter, my buddy and I lost our total of 5 points for a unit that hardly takes any....
so basically I wasted 3 years and $ 75.00 to go hunt a better unit...
I'm about to say to hell with colorado and thinking of a way to get my 75 bucks back this fall when I'm there hunting......
sorry about the rant, but with the rising cost of nonresident tags elsewhere and ohio stuck in the '80s with their tag prices, I'm about to sell my guns and hunting gear and take up golf or god forbid, join peta !!!!!!

Been there...used my 2 the ist time and didn't have to....but I'll go back to get another shot at an Elk.
That's why Canada is appealing to some...you don't need preference points, just find someone with the tags and go....
