Oh I feel sick to my stomach and it aint swine flu...

I was up at Sportsman's Den in Shelby today looking at guns (a bad thing to do when you don't have any money to buy guns with) and I've talked about wanting an o/u before and I found it today. They had an used Marlin O/U 16 ga, not sure the model. I know it started with a 9, but I want to say that it's in the thousands.

However, I've looked tonight it seems to be the model 90? Here's two links, one to one of gun broker, and another to a thread with a bunch of pictures of these things.

They wanted like 300-400 for the gun I think it was? Man if it was a 12 I probably would have had to have thought long and hard...but now I'm going to go put my head on the pillow and think about the gun I could have gotten... :dizzy:

Somebody tell me these are a piece of crap, or someone tell me they can go tomorrow and buy it and sell it to me in a few months.....it felt awesome in my hands and pulling it up...... I don't think the barrels were 28', maybe 24? Oh man it was a sweet little gun...

Somebody go buy it for me :D

If it has 24" barrels they've been cut, I'd keep looking. I'll admit to never handling a M90 but I have read some good things about them. If I found a nice M90 16 gauge with 30" barrels for under $600 and it fit me it would probably follow me home.

The local Gander had a Ted Williams O/U 20 gauge 2 3/4" with 28" bbls last year for around $500. Most wouldn't pay attention to a TW, but that model is the same as Win 101. I was VERY tempted, but really didn't need another 20. So there are some deals out there, don't be too quick to buy.

Huh that guy is on the thread I posted too (or just one that I read).

Something that stuck out in that article was that they said they didn't have 3 inch chambers, this one did, I made note of that.

Did Marlin make another O/U back in the day?

3" 16 gauge chambers and cut bbls. RUN, do not walk away.

BTW most people don't know it but there were some 3" 16 gauge guns in the early 1900's. But they are unusual, special order guns the shells are very collectible.. The chances of this gun having original 3" chambers is highly unlikely.

So you're saying that this is a mod-ed up gun and the price is such because of that. Thanks

Yep. The barrels are everything on a O/U or SxS. If you have a pump or semi-auto with barrel issue you can find another bbl, not so easy to do on a double gun. It sounds like someone has altered these to the point that I'd want avoid them.

I walk away very fast on any gun "I suspect" if it was altered...not worth the time to figure it out, and even take the chance in shooting it.

This rule applies to guns too (If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is").

I have come across some great deals in the past, but the amount of times that has happened... won't exceed the fingers on one of my hands!

Well speak of the devil... I happened to stop by a local shop today and there was an odd lookin' 16 ga. O/U on the rack. I asked "That wouldn't happen to be a Marlin 90 would it?" "Yep". So after just saying I never had handled one now I have.

$375.00 fair condition, some surface rust on the receiver, a minor ding in the top bbl, 28" bbls, double triggers, wood has shrunk around the tang leaving some gaps. Bores were good, wood finish good.

The only thing I thought was a concern is that the hole for the bead went through into the bore. Someone might have opened the chokes. But since this is the first 90 I ever looked at I don't know if maybe they were made that way:confused:

It's in Lisbon, Ernie, not to far out of your way when you're at school if you're interested I can give you contact info.
