Fished friday on rocky river for steelies. what a nice day it was. everyone was catching fish after fish. By the time I was there I must have seen 15-20 fish being caught. Water was murkey and high. I landed one and lost one in about 2 hours of flyfishing. caught both on same egg sucking leach.
Another guy caught this monster steelie, I tried to help him land that thing but it got unhooked and escaped. what a huge fish it was.
I am sure with this rain more fish are going to come up. Cant wait to get out there again.

What color egg sucking leech? I just tied up a dozen weighted stoneflies and tommorow I will tie up some eggs. I might tie up some Esl if they are biting on them,

I was using red/black ESL. The other guy was using yellow and he caught one too. I lost all my ESL that day and now will have to go buy some. Dont know how to tie but would like to get into it one day. it sounds fun to catch a fish on a fly you tie yourself.
Good luck fishing

Thanks for the update!
Tying stuff like wooly buggers and ESL's are REALLY easy and cheap to get into tying. It doesn't get expensive till you start buying stuff to tie everything you can think of....... :p

What is the easy way to get into fly tying and what material would I need in the beginning. I am so ready to learn to tie my own flies.

What kind of hours do you work. I can teach you just about anything you want to learn, it's just a matter of getting together.
Here's a starter list I made up for someone else:
Go buy a vice: a decent vice - $30 Thompson A to a $125 Renzetti, GOOD scissors($12-18), a ceramic or ruby tipped bobbin($8), a dubbing needle($3) and hackle pliers($4).
Bare essentials for Steelhead materials:
3/0 and 6/0 thread in black
.030 lead wire
Streamer stuff:
3-4 colors of medium chennile for buggers (2.50 per pkg)
2 or 3 colors of small chenille in fl. for the heads on Egg Sucking Leaches.
Strung saddle hackle and strung maribou in colors for ESL's and buggers. (4.50 per pkg)
Nymphs:
black and brown dubbing fur (2.50 per pkg)
Peacock herl
medium copper wire
black brown and white goose biots
Larva lace (black and brown)
Succker spawn
rug yarn or angora yarn(best)
Egg flies
Mc Fly foam or regular globug yarn
There's no need to but it all at once you can pick a few types of flies you want to fish and focus on tying a couple styles at first.

Easy flies to start with are eggs, caddis, ESL's, woolly buggers and some simple stone patterns. That should get you started for steelhead. Once you get started you will be addicted. There are days I'd rather tie than fish.:p

Thanks for the info guys.
Can I buy all this from one store or will I have to look around for these.
Lance I do work crazy hours ( I am a resident ) but I am sure I can find time to get togather. How is your schedule like ? I am free on thanksgiving morning, how would it work with you?
May be we can plan for some early morning hunting (pheasants/deer) or fishing togather and at the same time you can tell me how to tie flies.
Let me know.

Depending on the store you may be able to pick it all up in one place. The vise is the only thing that may throw you for an extra stop.
I work second shift so generally mornings are pretty good after I take my daughter to school. Hopefully I'll break out of this batch of little problems popping up that have been sucking up my mornings for the past month. I'd like to get out and fish or chase some birds in the morning as well. Maybe we can put something together next week.
