SW Ohio first split totals

This has been surprisingly one of our better first splits, although we haven't shot the amount of puddle ducks we wanted to. Bewteen my parter and I we have taken exactly 20 ducks this first split. The ducks we shot included widgeon, blacks, mallards, pentails, buffleheads, hooded mergs, woodies and we even shot one surf scoter. We took these ducks all on public land. Last year at this time after looking at my log from last season we only took right at 10 ducks. I'm still not seeing the amount of mallards as we did last year though. We have only taken two mallards so far. We're seeing more divers than anything. We shot that surf scoter the day after that bad wind storm we had. It must have gotten blown down from Erie.

10 point, sounds like a good start for this year,we,ve been doing pretty good so far also. but we,ve gotten more mallards than others. we hunt more beaver swamps than big water,are you going to lake st. marys i,m in the mosquito lake area. we just started taking the boat to bigger lakes, and it was totally different than wading around the swamps,and a lot easier. good luck..snag

We don't hunt St Mary's too much. We hunt it some during the teal season but that's about it. I don't know the lake that well and if that wind starts to blow you better have one heck of a boat because that lake gets rough, really rough.

We had similar results in the first half and so far the second is looking very good too! Are you still hunting Caesers or Cowan this year? We're doing both this year but have taken more Mallards near the corn fields and on smaller rivers and streams.

BTW-Been using those "Deks" I bought from you last summer on a small farm pond, leave them out most of the time and do some "jump shooting" a couple of times a week. Been working well for that, Mallards mostly!
