I'm looking at pistols and I like what I'm seeing and reading with these models. Seem to be a lot safer than S&W MP that don't necessarily have safeties. Seem pretty affordable and they say they shoot well.

Anyone have any experience with these, particularly with the 4" or Sub-Compact 3"? Thanks.

If you are thinking about a carry gun Also look into the Taurus Millennium Pro 145ssp.. A 10+1 .45 in a compact frame. 6.1 inches long and 5.1 inches high by 1.25 wide.. WITH 11 ROUNDS OF 45 IN IT.. WOW.. I am probably looking to pick one up very soon. It's a DA/SA pistol that is striker fired.. It carries in a "half cocked" position and the trigger pulls the striker a tiny bit more like a Double Action then fires.. So you are always carrying half cocked but it can't fire without the trigger being pulled. as it has a striker block and a trigger block, It also has a regular safety if you prefer. The gun can be found anywhere from $360 - 450

My XD9 4" is my carry gun. I am a bigger guy (6'0" 235lbs) and carry it rather easily. I have had no FTF, FTE, ro FTL's.

It is more accurate than I am. They do recommend a six o'clock aim point instead of covering the target.

ON our two the triggers were a bit scratchy/spongy at first. After a proper break in and dry firing she is good to go. No it is not the same trigger as my 92fs during SA but it is nice now.

No regrets...

FYI Vances bumped the price a bit but it is still only $429.

Beentown,

That's a safety right? I think might rather go 4" instead of 3 because I shoot bigger guns better but don't think I would have a problem concealing the 4, as I'm 6'3 220.

Maybe the best thing in that picture is the Blazer Brass. Do they feed and shoot cheap(er) ammo well?

FYI mine is the 4". No safety except for the grip and trigger safety. IMHO that is plenty. I actually prefer this now. My safety resides between my ears.

I have shot just about everything through this and no hiccups what so ever. The only mishap I had was on overpressure reload. 1200 rounds so far :bouncy:.

My bad. The "button" that's next to the trigger looks curiously like a cross-trigger safety, not a magazine release.

Another question about the gun (thank you- you guys are being so helpful and I'm falling in love with this gun. I've just got to find one to shoot). When you field strip it, do you have to pull the trigger? I don't like Glocks for that reason (or at least that's the impression I'm under about glocks)

If someone could explain the whole "it doesn't shoot in battery" thing too, that'd be great. Is this a common feature on guns? I've never heard of it until today, despite shooting a dozen or more different handguns.

;) Go ahead, someone tell me you just put two double A's in...

I do believe that the Powder Room in Powell has them for rental as many other choices. The best advice is to go there and rent a few and get a feel for what fits you.

When field stripping the standard XD ($429 @ Vances) you do indeed pull the trigger. Not that I see that as much of an issue because why would you ever field strip a gun with a mag in the well:confused: FWIW I don't keep magazines around when I am cleaning or field stripping anyway just to be extra safe in the house.

The XDM ($569 @ Vances) you do not pull the trigger to strip the firearm. I would get an XDM model if it came in different size variances.

You know Springfield doesn't make an XD "sub Compact in .45. I don't have anything against the .40 just don't want the extra hazard of having the rounds around.. All mine are .45 and the last thing I need is a .40 to sneak into a box somewhere.. Plus if I want to buy bulk I only need to buy a 1000 count case of 45 not 500 for .40 and 500 for .45.. Thats just me though.. Did you look at the gun I posted above. 6 inches long by 5 inches tall and holds 11 rounds of .45..

I've shot the XD .45ACP and absolutely loved it. Probably the most accurate handgun I've fired. One thing I really like about it is it'll hold 14 rounds; 1 in the chamber and 13 in the mag.

Jack.

Not a huge Taurus fan, heard a lot of not good things about them (along the lines of you get what you pay for). While I know I'm not going to be buying a 1000 gun, I think I'd rather spend 500 than 300 and get a better gun. 'Cause once you get to 300, hell I might as well buy a Hi-Point. (And might :))

As for .40, Dad's got an MP in 9mm, so it'd just make sense to get one in 9 for the reasons you stated of ammo. I know a lot of guys say they wouldn't carry anything but 40 or 45, but there's a lot of guys that carry 9 and I think that with the right bullets and a shooter that's accurate, 9 is fine. I'd rather have a 9 then nothing at all!

I would agree about older Taurus pistols.. But Taurus has come a long way.. I researched the hell out of this gun and I believe it will be a great little shooter.. Here are 17 reviews from Law enforcement Officers that carry it as a backup or a plain clothes and have nothing but good to say about it..

i personaly have a 4" model in 9mm.. I have no complaints about it.. shoots great.. shoots every ammo put through it... very accurate if you can find the ammo it 'likes' (all are different) looking to buy a .40 sub compact within the year for CC

I also have a compact Taurus Millenium in 9mm. It is a good gun. Shoots every time I pull the trigger. I prefer the XD but would not compare the Taurus to a boat anchor...cough cough...I mean Hi point.

IMHO a High Point is good for nothing but plinking. If that is what you are going to use it for then by all means. Put it to you this way...my brother (the cheapskate) purchased a HP C9. Was actually carrying it even though he would have either FTF/FTE/FTL problems every now and then. I gave him a Beretta until he decides to come off the money for something else. Which will probably be never but I would rather him have something he can count on if the time ever occurs and needs reliability.

Some feedback.....XD40....good shooting pistol, shoots anything you feed it. Stiff spring would be nice to have more rib on the back of the slide for racking. Points naturally and can be easily controled with small clip but really nice with the extend clip.
