Last weekend i was at my friends camper in Jefferson county, and we were shootin the .357 and the .22. We were shooting alot and we took a break and sat down at the picnic table. I looked over at the truck and there was a grouse on the hood of the truck. So everyone ran oveer there and it flew oof the truck and down a little edge, and we looked down and there were three grouse down there. but i couldnt believe it when i just glanced ovr at the truck.

Yep! They're acting pretty screwy:coco: this time of year. I rode an ATV within 5 feet of one Thursday. Of course, I left the camera back in the truck:bonk:. Buckslayer just posted a real clear closeup pick of a grouse too.

I sat down on a stump today on a public hunting area adjacent to an old road in the woods. grouse took off real close. After 10 minutes, I realized there was a grouse nest with 11 eggs right in front of me under a log. took pictures with camera phone. sorry, did not bother to learn how to post photos here.
hope they hatch and survive.

Antiqucycle,

I was simply wondering if you were out at an public wildlife area up in the NE or SE/central/SW ohio? I certainly don't want to know the particular area (especially on a public BB), but if you were up in a NE area that info would be meaningful to me because:

-I have not spent anywhere near enough time combing the WA's up here in the NE but I have spent some hours and the habitat seems pathetic plus I've never even seen a grouse during the time I've spent. To know you witnessed the nest/grouse up this way would at least give me some hope! :p

-I plan on taking some of these DNR guys to task about all this and their excuses for not doing anything about the habitat. Unfortunately I've had a lot of stuff slamming me and haven't had a chance to do it yet. But one of their excuses is that private land is more important because there is so much more of it (as posted on another thread), and certainly your confirmation would at least give me one more item to throw back at them as I plan to primarily focus on the NE WA's.

Anyways, thanks in advance and if you decide not to respond I can understand that also.

Gary
