everybody should pick a 22lr, its the cheapest.
then a 223 since it fits a rifle or a contender.
last, tossup, either a 45acp or the 44 mag.

the rest of the highpower rifle cartridges are too difficult to pick between
but I sure love the 762X39 because of the price I paid in the 90's.

I guess, since I'm not everybody, I can't pick the 22LR.
My #1 most favorite cartridge for most of my life is the 222Rem.
A recent favorite is the 25WSSM.
I guess I'd have to say my 45LC in a Ruger Bisley Blackhawk.:D

One reason I like these cartridges is because of the guns they're in.

I'll pick three that are so versatile and have so many wonderful qualities that if you only had one gun and it was in one of these calibers you would be set for many uses.

1st .22LR to many good qualities to list them all but affordability and versatility are at the top of the list.

2nd 12 gauge from light target and small game loads to heavy turkey/waterfowl loads to buck shot and slugs. If I was forced to only have one gun it would have to be a 12 gauge

3nd 30-06 probably the most versatile, readily available big game cartridge around the world. Bullet selections suitable for every animal in North America.

Now if I was pick 3 just on emotion it would be .270 Win, .257 Roberts( which I don't own:() and 16 gauge.

For me.

16 ga. For me this is the best all around load. Can take down a pheasant without a problem and can hunt woodcock without blowing them up. I have no doubt I could take care of ducks and turkey with it if I chose to as well.

.30-.30 Yeah the 30-30 can be a little pricey but I've got someone to load custom light loads so I can play with it a little bit beyond just deer hunting. And my scope is still within 2 inches for each grain bullet at 100 yards! ;)

.22 lr - What can I say.

Dead on exactly I what I would say, except for 1 item....replace the .270 with the 7mm STW....but they would be a dead heat equal choice......everything else would be exactly the same.....including my want of getting the .257 roberts as well...came close twice!!:biggrin:

That's pretty good OSAM....
