I already had posted this on team 7's thread, so I'll just paste it here too.
What an absolutely frustrating day turkey hunting!:irked:
Get out at 5:30, some stars and the moon shinning, look to be a good morning.
About 6:10 I get a gobble so I get in the woods just far enough to see down in the hollow and get set-up. There about 15 minutes and I hear another hunter hooting. He spooked the bird off it's roost. Then he seems to set-up 50 yards away from me. (later I found out this was a friend and he has permission)
So I get up and move down the hollow a couple hundred yards to a power line and set-up again. Right at 7 an old guy on a 4-wheeler comes up a logging road and up the power line, almost ran over my decoy:mad::mad: He gets to the top of the hill only 40-50 yards from me and gets off and starts glassing the field. So I go up and talk to him, when I get close I recognize him as a neighbor's son-in-law who talked his mother-in-law not letting us deer hunt last year(we'd hunted that property for 30 years) So I asked if he had permission (only I and the friend above have been given permission this spring). He claimed to be related to the old lady that owns the farm(he isn't) and she lets everyone hunt(she doesn't). He also rode through a church campground to get there. No use getting into a big fight, hopefully we'll get back on his in-laws sometime and pizzing him off won't help.
I decide to head to the other end of the farm, about a 3/4 mile walk over hilly ground(I'm getting to old and fat for this:whistle:) and once again go in the woods a little and sit down (it's now 8:45) and after awhile let out a few calls. Right away a gobbler answers from across the hollow, so I call again and he fires right back.:) So I move up the hollow and cross it to his side and get back down about 100 yards above where he gobbled from. I get set-up and I think I hear another hunter calling. I call, no gobble, wait 15 minutes and try again. Nothing, then I hear the guy above me calling again. So after moving up a couple more times I give up on that one too. :irked:
Running out of places to hunt on this farm, so I decide to head to another farm(about 15 miles away). Get there and it's almost 11:00 so I have to hurry. Decide not to take the decoys. I get to the spot I was planning on and realize in my rushing that I've forgotten my face mask. I start calling and in the distance I hear a gobble. Call again and there's several gobbles. They're responding to every call and getting closer:bouncy: Finally I can see them, 3 gobblers, and they are now getting cautious(wish I had my decoys and mask). One, a long beard, hops up on a log and stretches his neck out to look and I think this is as good a chance as I'm going to get. Just as I pull the trigger he steps off the log and I FREAKIN MISS!!!:banghead3:
Maybe tomorrow will be better:D

What happened was the bird gobbled for my owl hoot, but not the other guys. So he didn't know where the bird was and bumped it by going in too close.

I saw one hen today alongside the Ohio turnpike in Lorain(city). to busy working and ticked off the sun was actually shining most of the day when the goofy weatherman said 3 straight days of rain. looking forward to two 17 year morons skipping school thursday, plannning to sneak in my favortite spot. they have zero experience hunting turkeys. It was bad saturday since two groups of youth hunters were tresspassing with no permission, then monday some idiots hooting owls and blowing crow calls, no permission either on the property, the owner is getting really ticked off.

Wow...thats a lot of hunters. I have hunted publicland for the past 2 days and haven't seen or heard another hunter.
Today was slow. Only saw one hen. Heard two different birds gobble around 9, but coldn't get them to respond to my calls.

Similar to BW, I got the pleasure of going to work today. Had an early meeting so couldn't get in later in the morning:irked: Same scenario for tomorrow, but will get back out before work on Thursday and Friday:D
I get to take one day off during turkey, so I figured I would wait until friday to take a day off, since it is supposed to be nice out.. I will hunt mushrooms in the afternoon..
